I was thinking it might be fun to try out everyone's favorite brain teaser, logic puzzles, and riddles.
I'll start, with this math riddle.
3 traveling business men go into a hotel and ask for a room. The desk manager tells them that there is only one room left and it will cost $30. They split the cost and each pay $10 and go to the room. The desk manager then realizes the room was only $25, so he gives $5 to the bellhop and tells him to return it to the 3 men. Halfway there the bellhop decides to pocket $2 and return $1 to each of the 3 men. The 3 men end up paying $9 each. $9 times 3 is $27 and the bellhop has $2. $27 plus $2 is $29. What happened to the extra $1?
I've heard this one a couple of times.
There is no extra one dollar, everything adds up. 25 (price) + 3 (refund) + 2 (bellboy) = 30.
Basically, the riddle is tricking us into believing that 27 + 2 accounts for all the money that is being moved around. But what is 27? 27 is 25 + 2, which is the price of the room + the tip the bellboy kept. So there is no reason to add 2 dollars to that 27...
