Default Another one bites the dust (or pays the fine)

However you look at it, this is another case of the ridiculous lengths the RIAA will go to, as well as the retarded penalties that people are hit with...

Minnesota Mom Hit With $1.5 Million Fine for Downloading 24 Songs - Amplifier

Please, voice you opinion on the matter...

    Here is my opinion:

While, yes, it is true that illegal downloading and trading of music has had a measureable effect on the recording industries' profit margin; I do not believe it is to the extent that the RIAA would have you believe. I also do not believe it is hitting the actual artist as hard as they would have you believe, but rather the record label. I believe it is the record label who is responsible for most of the raping and pillaging of the artist's wallet. I have heard several times, from several places, that the artist makes most of their money doing concerts and making appearances, because the album and the money made from it, for the most part, goes to the label. While I don't know this to be 100% true, I do believe it. It is my opinion that the structure of the recording industry, itself, is the most detrimental force on the recording industry.

If you feel that I left the start of this kind of vague, that's because I did. I want to hear the opinions of others on the matter...

They never get really any of the money they are fined. Its more or less a news story to them.

How does the RIAA actually win, they lose so much money through trials and I doubt anyone actually has millions of dollars or valuables to pay up.
