    Default Blu-Ray in 20 seconds! Verizon Hits 1Gbps

    This is inspiring. Verizon has reported that it has completed a real-world field test of its fiber optic FiOS service where it was able to push nearly one gigabit of data per second. Thats a lot, thats similar to downloading a Blu-Ray movie in less than 20 seconds – a DVD in 4 seconds!
    The test was carried out at a customers’ business premisis. This is major news because never before such speeds were reached in a real-world test. The main reason was although the line can provide speeds of up to 2.4Gbps there was not enough customer equipment to support such high speeds.
    Will Verizon beat Google to providing 1Gbps internet connectivity? Its a matter of price is what analysts say. Google might be willing to offer 1Gbps connections to homes at a lower cost, more affordable while FiOS is still expensive and considering a 1Gbps line might not be affordable. As more players enter the market the prices are sure to go down.

    1Gbps = 0.125 GBps (right?)
    Gbps = Gigabit per second
    GBps = Gigabyte per second

    So a DVD will be completed approximately 34.4 seconds not 4 seconds.

    I just hope they come soon to Asia.

    Correct, 8 bits equals a byte. Man, I wish Qwest wasn't in my area. I want FiOS sooo bad.

    I have FiOS and love the fast speeds, but they package in a bunch of stuff I don't ever use for unnecessarily higher prices just to get FiOS Internet.

    FiOS TV Prime HD comes bundled with 5Mbit/2Mbit FiOS Internet.
    FiOS TV Extreme HD comes bundled with 25Mbit/25Mbit FiOS Internet.
    FiOS TV Ultimate HD comes bundled with an average 35/35Mbit FiOS Internet.

    If I could hit anywhere near 1Gbps I might poop a little. I just got a 25mb connection and I still go nuts when i see a 2.5 d/l speed from my seedbox. Man I remember was 56k was blow your hair back high speed.
