Default What is your countrys view on filesharing?

Well the reason for this thread is pure curiosity, since i live in sweden filesharing haven´t been that much of a hassle, noone cared up untill quite recently, and then from out of nowhere it exploded into an fullblown witchhunt for about a month or 2(it was about the same time as the trail of the founders of TPB), then it faded away again like the problem never exsisted.

Now most of the swedish trackers have shut down, or are on the verge of doing so due to pressure from the goverment or private industries, the goverment even made a law that made it possible for the police to monitor and record information that passed the swedish border, this of course was to prevent "terrorists" and "criminals" from destroying our country.

But at the same time record-companies got the right to demand that information on single person was released, so that this person could be procecuted for filesharing.

So the question is: Have something similar happed in you home country, if so what started it all and is it the goverment or private industries, or maybe even both who are fueling this hunt?

Over here in the Netherlands it's officially illegal but honestly I don't think it's ever been seriously enforced, and I very much doubt it will be unless some form of EU wide institution gets started up because about 18m dutch people simply isn't enough for any company to give a shit :).

Here it is considered illegal, and the subject has been brought on the news a few times , but i think they don't really care, and besides now they have bigger problems like economic crisis.
