I'd also have to agree with the Hunter s. Thompson books, but I've been reading a book called 'Motherless Brooklyn' by Jonathan Lethem. It's about a private eye with tourrets, very funny book.

The Catcher in the Rye... yeah. I began reading it a while ago because of what I had heard of it. And well, it is true that even if I haven't finished it yet, the little I've read really made me want to read more. It seems to me that I had heard the name of the book in the movie Conspiracy Theory with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts and I had wanted to give it a shot. Hopefully I'll get the time to read more soon!
And as for me, I gotta say that I really love the Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay (yeah, the eponymous tv show was based on a book!). Up to now, I've read every single one and... well, you get in the story incredibly quick and you want to know what's going to happen next. Really breathtaking sometimes.
And another one I liked a lot is About a boy, of Nick Hornby (also adapted into a movie). Powerful book!
Anything on this list - Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child - The Official Web Site | Books
Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child are both incredible authors.
Also check out Utopia.
i have gotten into the Matthew Reilly books
If you want a good book to read try George Orwell - 1984
You say your a big fan of adventure then read anything by Jules Verne, i would suggest "20000 Leagues Under the Sea" or "Around the World in 80 Days"
Other books i'd recommend are William Golding - Lord of the Flies and Ernest Hemmingway - For Whom the Bell Tolls
My favorite books are from R.A. Salvatore. You know Dungeons & Dragons? He wrote books in that universe. I have Dark Elf Trilogy here and love them. Great fantasy literature. If you're into that stuff, definitely worth a read.
My two favorite books are "In The Words of Charles Manson", I forget the author, and "Tenderness" by Robert Cormier. "In The Words of Charles Manson" was an amazing biography, the whole time I was reading it I couldn't put it down. Charles Manson lived an extremely messed up life and it was one of the few biographies that I have ever read where it was like I was reading fiction.
