Default Dreams Of A Child / Reality Of An Adult

I was thinking about this last night as I was rocking my little boy to sleep last... I was pondering what he would do and become as a person and it got me thinking of this question to ask here.

As you were growing up, what did you want to be do and be in life and what are you doing now as an adult? I think it'd be interesting to see where we wanted to be as kids and where we are now. I'm sure there will be some drastic differences. =)

I'll go first... When I was little, I wanted to be a MLB player. To be specific, a left fielder for the St. Louis Cardinals. Today, I am a software developer. I should have seen it coming... My dad is one and so is my brother. It suites my analytical brain...

    So, how about you?!

    This is very interesting!

I always wanted to understand how things work, why we do what we do, find a greater truth, unravel the mysteries that "tortured" my brain and finally be free of ignorance.

I couldnt resist but follow this. So i am a mathematician as well as physicist. (Although i mainly work as a translator of scientific books this period, but i will continue evolving towards my major goal).

When I was a kid, I often used to draw something to express my thoughts and kill time(I guess technology and computers changed my behavior.. later ), and my dad told me that I should go for arts, but later when I was around 12, I was already into computer things, because the school I was in taught me, and I was like "oh I like this,ok then, I guess I wanna graduate at something regarding about computers !" but no, later I got really obsessed with money, because I realized that "well, money buys everything, except love,I guess.." so my dad told me that if I "wanted to be just, and earn alot of money, graduating as a lawyer would be the best decision." but then, around 15, I realized that what I wanted was power, authority, money, and the thought of trying to do something good for my country, so that's when I found out that what I actually want to be is a politician(I guess I'm not surprised, I think I have two or three uncle politicians, both from my parent's parts, not sure the exactly amount on my mom's part.), and that's where I am going to go, right now I'm nothing, just a university student, but I already have good connections with alot of "certain people" which I do not dare name, that will help me out, when I graduate from Political Science. :001_smile:

By the way, nice thread nameless. :001_smile:

After reading a picture-book about a fireman when I was a kid, I decided to be one too. It just looked so cool you know, saving lives (including kittens) and fighting fires. Throughout my 19 years on Earth, my ambition in life has constantly fluctuated. I have thought of becoming an engineer because I dreamed of building a tunnel underwater in which cars could pass through. I have thought of becoming a school director because my mom owned an elementary school. I have thought of becoming a wildlife enthusiast, kinda like Steve Irwin, because of my overwhelming interest in animals. I have thought of becoming the president of our country (doesn't everybody?). I have thought of becoming a chef because I enjoy cooking. I have also thought of becoming a food critic because I love eating different kinds of food and writing is my forte. Well, when I was addicted to DOTA I have thought of becoming a professional gamer. =D

Currently, I'm taking up Asian Studies in an American university. Learning the Korean language formally and through my girlfriend. Member of a speech club. Attending human rights and environmental seminars. Volunteering for the local foreign community. And making connections in the diplomatic circuit in garden parties. I'm on the track of becoming a diplomat like my dad, although I don't think I would be studying law like he did. *gulp* My mum would kill me if we had another lawyer in the family.

When I was younger I wanted to be a fireman or a business owner. After a year of being a fireman I had an accident that resulted in me never being able to work hard labor jobs again. Now I'm a business owner that earns money with the internet. It hurts to know that I'll never be a fireman again but I have hope that one day I can relive my dream.

That's a really good story. It was interesting to follow how one place in your life lead to another and where you finally wound up. Remind me never to make you made in real life! The double quotes lead me to believe I should mention that... =)

Yeesh! You make me feel old and I'm only in my latter 20's! =) Your story had a good flow to it too. You think / bounce around a lot of cool stuff! Keep thinking like that! Sound like you are well on your way!

Man, I'm sorry, Curse. First of all, thank you for serving your life to help others. That's incredible and honorable and very worth acknowledging! The world needs more people like you! I pray that you get the emotional and physical strength to one day return to what you love!

Thank you for the compliments but I'm unable to comprehend why I should be praised or acknowledged for who I am. I do appreciate any prayers I can get because prayers do work and I know that it will help me return to my place as a fireman.

All I was saying is that everyone has a choice of what to do with their lives. I simply wanted to thank you for making the one that you did.
