    Default 2012: Fact or Fiction?

The Long Count Calendar of the Ancient Mayans ends on Dec 21 2012. There isn't much information regarding what the Mayans thought would occur in 2012, but the consensus of opinion is that there will be great change. To some people this means a positive, spiritual change. Others, like myself, consider that a catastrophic event may have been predicted.
I have no idea if something bad will happen in 2012 or not but what may happen can be seen on the movie which was one of the most terrifying movie i have seen because this could be a fact indeed.
is this the end of the world is it the end of our time
here is a countdown to 21 dec Doomsday

    My take on this.

The Mayan calander does not end in 2012. The current long count calander the Mayans used will end, then like the 12 month Calanders we use today, it will simply roll over and a new long count calander will come into effect.

What will happen on 21 December 2012? Nothing apart from a new winter solstice.

How did this prediction come about? It started by some who claimed a planet called Nibiru was heading towards earth and was supposed to collide with us in May 2003. Now what happened in May 2003? Thats right, nothing. So they then shifted the "doomsday" prediction to coincide with the ending of the current Mayan calander.

Is the planet Nibiru actually real? No, it's a myth, if there was a planet heading towards earth astronomers would be tracking it and it would also be slightly visible with the naked eyes by now.

There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012

I voted yes because of the following reasons :

    1) I may or may not believe on the Mayan calender, but I believe that the earth had enough from us, it's time to move on .
    2) I personally believe that humans are not the first creatures "which had the ability of thinking and evolution " to live on earth, and we "The Humans" have been living for a really really long time on earth so it's time "and I hope it happen sooner than later"
    3) I had it from the Humans, they are murders, rapes, etc etc .. and above all that earth is dying just because we thought of way of energy 50 or more years ago and still using it although we know it's harmful to the environment .
    4) eventually we all will die, so why don't we die as one man ... one man only .

    that's my 2 cent .

Actually, there have been some other prediction about a certain "Bolon Yookte K'uh" or whatever the spelling is. 2012 phenomenon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipedia states that the translation from some Mayan records or whatever translate into the following:
Tzuhtz-(a)j-oom u(y)-uxlajuun pik The Thirteenth [b'ak'tun] will end (ta) Chan Ajaw ux(-te') Uniiw. (on) 4 Ajaw, the 3rd of Uniiw [3 K'ank'in]. Uht-oom Ek'-... Black ... will occur. Y-em(al) ... Bolon Yookte' K'uh ta-chak-ma... (It will be) the descent(?) of Bolon Yookte' K'uh to the great (or red?)...The Bolon guy is apparently some sort of God or whatever, and his descent to Earth will happen on the fateful day of December 22 2012. Now, my opinion on this matter, is that he is not a God, but a creature from another planet that landed here before, and then left. The Mayan were not such a primitive people to believe into just about anything, they were quite advanced (maybe not in technology, but most of their civilization still remains a mistery to date). So, an alien creature (maybe more of 'em, who knows), are supposed to land on Earth on that day. Or it could all be just a hoax.

There is also mention of a "man-boy" from a land of sparks (?) that is supposed to battle the creature. Not sure what to make of that.

Here's an excerpt from an article I read somewhere.

According to Dr. Jorge Estrada, an Archaeologist from the University of Caba and an expert on Mayan an Olmec studies, the Mayans used a cyclical calendar, where every 144,000 days (approximately 400 years) constituted a unit called a “baktun.” Several Mayan records warn that after 13 baktuns have elapsed from year 0, “something” would happen. What that “something” entails is far from clear. Inscriptions seem to indicate that after the 13th baktun elapses, “Black… will occur” followed by the descent of “Bolon Yookte K’uh.” Who or what a Bolon Yookte K’uh is–aside from a terrible name for a baby girl–is at this point unclear. Inscriptions found elsewhere describe Bolon as a god of war, conflict or the underworld.

Dr. Estrada doesn’t put a lot of stock in the doomsday scenarios, but during our conversation, he did begin talking very excitedly about some new inscriptions he’d uncovered recently that shed some light on Bolon Yookte K’uh. His translation hasn’t been published or peer-reviewed yet, so take it with a grain of salt. The inscription appears to tell a story of Bolon Yookte K’uh meeting a “man-boy from the land of sparks and whispers.” This half-man apparently confronts Bolon Yookte K’uh on the day of reckoning. After that point, the inscription is badly damaged, and little else after that is legible, except for a glyph meaning “terrible violation.”

I voted no because of the following.........

    1. No ones calendar can last forever it has to end sometime and I honestly believe that like our 12 month calendar it starts in January ends and December then starts over again. But just because someone's calendar ends does not mean its the end of the world.

    2. Remember Y2K? all the hype all the paranoid people and what happened? nothing the world continued and the world's technology functioned correctly. I think this while 2012 thing is all hype and with the help of Hollywood it has gained even more popularity.

Dont get me wrong the world can end at anytime, mankind can seize to exist. An asteroid can hit us, global warming can affect us, or we can just make ourselves go extinct either way we will all one day seize to exist. We just dont know when or even how.

Enjoy life and dont worry about how this world will end just enjoy the time you are on it and leave this earth knowing you made your life worth while.

well, I voted no for the following reason:
    1. discontinuation of a particular calender is not good enough to predict the end of earth or humankind
    2. so far, there is no science/religion that supports it (what a lame reason), there is no science observations that showing or even suggesting something would happen on that particular day, there is no other religions that say 21st Dec 2012 is the Doomsday.

However, I do believe there will be an end for earth, not necessarily the human kind:
    1. as far as we know, the longest time that earth can survive (in the present status) is roughly about 5 billions years from now. By then, our energy source, the Sun, will simply burn out. Hopefully by then, we could find another plant to migrate to.
    2. a catastrophic event could happen, i.e.: a comet could collide with earth, killing everything on it. So far, we had so many near misses which NASA could only detect hours prior to impact.
    3. bio-hazard. Some sort of virus (man-made or nature) could start a pandemic which kills everyone one on earth.

PS, by the way, who knows what happened to the Mayans, their mysterious disappearance is really interesting.
The darkest creature, born at the brighest spot of the universe, hunted by the righteous and sinful, respected by the visionary. He holds the power of eternity, and ultimate destruction. He is the greatest creature from the Ancient, who has the power to control the Future. He is, The Exalted.

I voted no for one reason only. Because God's Word states that no man knows the time nor date of the end of time. Not even the angels in heaven know.

I don't know what to say.Maybe in 2012,the world will change somehow, but I don't think that will be the end of the world.

I replied that it is fiction, because:
Basis of the events calendar Mayan
    1) I read a lot about the Maya Indians, the mysterious people, but no one said about the end of the world
    2) I am still young and do not want to die in my 33 :)

I think that this is purely fiction... I don't believe in this kind of stories but i understand that other people do.
