Default Food For Thought: Innocent Rapist..

A brief summary is a guy was wrongfully blamed for raping and burglary on 2 counts and convicted to 54+ years in jail for a crime he didnt commit.
One of the rape victims pointed him out, and the other agreed that it could be him.
He spent 10 1/2 years in jail..

After getting out (due to DNA evidence) the state of north carolina offered him $5000 compensation.
    Honestly, $5000?
For someone who just spent more than 10 years of their life locked up where they could have easily made 150,000 working a minimum wage job, and you offer 5000?
Who else thinks thats wrong on so many levels?
Already its terrible that he had to undergo the time, desocialization from the community, psychological problems im sure, and much more..
Yet, they want to give him what teenagers could make working summer jobs?
You may read more about it here.

That is really fu**ed up man....i just cant imagine what that guy must be going through. To have 10 and a half years of your life taken away just because someone "thought" it was you who did it? And the jury wasnt allowed to listen to the new evidence? what for? And that after a known convict had confessed? Things like this really rile me up. If i was the guy, id want everyone responsible sentenced to 10 years in jail. That would teach them to play with someones life....

For 2009, $5k is really funny for 10 years compensation but I guess he was released in 1995 so $5k might not be that bad. But of course It is still funny. Nothing can bring back those years. Also as an ex-convict, he probably wouldnt find a decent job. Thats just so wrong.

Its a sad thing, yes. Imo they thought that they couldnt give the 10 years back, so they gave him some money to be able to start his life again. Even if they gave him $100.000.000, its not equal to the years he had to be in jail, so they didnt give him that much. (plus he ate there, had somewhere to sleep, the state had to be paying for his living in jail)

    It's not fair .
But speaking from the 3rd world , if he were here , he could have been hung and nobody would have ever known he is innocent . It's sad he lost over 10 years of his life , but he could've lost more .

Honestly, they should wipe his record as an "ex-convict" if he was proven to not be the rapist, I mean that just hinders the job market all together by having that on your record, if they messed up they should come in and correct it to at least allow him to get a job now that he is out.

As far as $5000, even in 1995 that is still not a lot, minimum wage was right around $5.00/hour (source: U.S. Minimum Wage History).
