Thread: How Long Do You Keep Your Computer On Usually???

Okay, here is a simple poll for everyone.

Please vote in the poll and post your option and reasoning behind it.

I will go first

Well unlike most of the "crazy" people on here (LOL) i don't keep my computer running for weeks and months with turning it off. Not even for days. The longest i've ever kept it on was like for 1 week and that happens very rarely. Usually which is the question, i keep it on for around 9 hours and then give it a break then back on for another 8 or so hours. So on a daily basis i have it on for around 12-19 hours. I do this because i believe that keeping it on is harmful on the computer and i dont want to lose my current computer, its too good =D.



So there is my two cents and REASONING behind it.

Please give detailed answers and not 1 sentence replies.

Finally, if none of these answers represent how long you keep your computer on for, round it up to the nearest poll answer.

Hmmm, not sure how I should answer this, but I have a PC and a laptop which I personally use. I never turn off my PC since it acts as a media server to all other computers and consoles within my house (four PCs, 2 Xbox360s, 2 PS3s, and a WD media player). That home media PC never turns off as everything is stored on that particular PC and all other devices just streams from there. On another note, my laptop turns off all the time since I don't do any downloading to it. The longest it'll stay on is for like a day then I'll usually turn it off during the night. I like how I have my home network is setup; it's convenient for all users and you don't have to stack up numerous HDDs on multiple PCs.

I usually have it on at all times. It's a laptop, so I can move it around my house. I like to seed and download at night.

I shut my laptop so rarely :) , The Morning i do my " Office's stuff" at night DL or UP something !

I usually keep my PC on for as long as i could. But to cut my electricity cost m building an Atom based rig for my downloads. Once i build it i'll be 24hrs online with my torrents.

I reboot my computer every day or two but the only time it gets turned off is if my electricity goes out. I have some trackers that I seed from it.

mine would be on if there is power. I would ideally reboot every 2days, but a complete shutdown is rare due to downloading. I have plans to get a download rig to keep on 24x7. my current system consumes too much power

I have it on all day long, I turn it off when I got to bed.

I have a seedbox so I have no problems shutting down my laptop. I basically shut it down because the noise is very abnoxious. Also, it's always good to restart once a day at least to give the computer a rest, once a pc literally exploded in front of me cause it overheated so much, ever since then, I'm pretty carefull about it.
