Default XP - Core Edition - Give your Feedback!

This post has been updated to give a description version 2 rather than version 1. Version 1 no longer exists. Please press "download XP Core Edition v2" in my siggy to download the second version as a Demonoid torrent. I will upload to other trackers when v3 comes out. Screenshots for version 2 will be up soon =)

Version 3 will be out soon!

    Here is a description -

XP Core Edition v2 is a version of XP that was built for simplicity, reliability & security. This version of XP only installs the 'base' OS, without the junk. VLK serial is used, so no activation is needed. Service Pack 3 has been integrated & all of Bashrat the Sneaky's driver packs have been integrated into the disk, including SATA drivers. The installation is completely unattended except for HDD partitioning. As there is only XP's essentials, there is less to be exploited. Version 2 has many updates to the original, including a new minimalistic theme.

The reason this disk is 597MB, is because ALL of Bashrat the Sneaky's driver packs have been integrated. In fact, over 60% of the MB is pure drivers. These drivers are NOT installed on to the HDD, they are left on the disk. These driver's should mean that your hardware will have the needed drivers available on this disk. The actual XP installation is a LOT smaller than 500MB. It's important to realize that only the needed drivers are installed on the HDD. Drivers that aren't for your hardware will not be installed & will be left on the disk if you need them later.

    Added -

ALL of Bashrat the Sneaky's driver packs
    Service Pack 3

    Tweaks -

UXTheme.dll patch applied - 3rd party MSstyle support
Max ports opened up - Might speed up internet

A LOT faster. Take a look at the system infomation. A pentium 3 CPU wth 256MB RAM. It responds instantly. Imagine how fast it would be on a dual core....

I need help with this. Can you recommend a way to distribute it?

    No way. No Vista bullsh*t.

This is called 'cut down' for a reason.

This is the fastest Windows OS I have ever seen (Even faster than 98se), & adding Vista effects would slow it.

Everyone must realise that this XP comes with NOTHING. No luna XP theme. No wallpapers, no screensavers (Apart from blank) no WMP, no IE, no additional languages apart from English (I will add more if required). Most of XP's wizards have been removed. There is no Windows Firewall or security center. There is no System Restore. No indexing. Stuff is avalible on the disk, but none of it is installed by default.

This stuff hasn't been disabled. It has been removed.

I can safely say that it runs way faster than 98se, Ubuntu, 2000 & Server 2003. No joke.

However, on the disk there is loads of programs if you want to install them. FF3, Foobar2000, Daemon Tools, Rocketdock with stack addon, windows sidebar, Windowblinds with Vista theme, Launchy, Vista & OSX wallpapers etc. If you want Vista theme, it's there if you want it. But it isn't installed by default. This comes with more apps than most, but NONE of them are installed by deault.

I've got Windows XP Black Dream Vista, and it still ran pretty fast when I had my p4 256mb ram. But having System Restore, Indexing and at times Security Center can be a good thing. If your a developer like I am and want to make sure you don't lose everything, and security center at times incase a hacker disables your anti-virus and firewall.

    Another point......

20mins for the entire installation (Including ALL Bashrat's drivers) on a laptop with a 1GHZ CPU & 256MB RAM & a slow disk drive.

That shows how little crap is on this thing.

A P4 is a LOT faster than a P3. Mine is faster because unlike Black Dream, nothing is installed by default.

    Untrue.

System restore is for people who don't know how to fix PCs. If you were a developer, you would know how to do it without system restore. System restore leave crap on your HDD & logs everything you do, slowing down the whole PC.

Security Center does not re-enable a anti virus if it has been hacked. Your anti virus will inform you itself if it is out of date. Firewalls will also update without security center. Security Center just tells you stuff, it doesn't actually interact with your security what so ever.

Security center is more bloat for people who don't know how to operate their security software properly.

    I'm just saying.... :)

I'm a developer, but I'm also the type of person that would rather spend 5 min restoring to yesterdays make. Than screwing with a bunch of sh!t that slows down my work process and kills time for deadlines that I have to meet.

Security center doesn't re-enable, I'll agree, but it does warn you when it has been turned off, which can be good for people who don't know how to do anything but check their myspace.

This OS hasn't crashed once yet in testing, so system restore probably isn't needed. Most things that cause XP to crash, have been removed from this OS. Most problems take less than a minute to solve, unlike System Restore which takes ages & fills your HDD with crap. Anybody who is skilled at PCs can fix a adverage XP problem very quickly. Actually skilled PC users, don't let their OS crash in the first place.

Most security software will warn you without Security Center. Only n00b security software relies on Security Center. This OS isn't designed for people that only know how to check their MySpace. It's designed for people that know a thing or two.
