I usually pay for software tbh. It's just not worth the hassle of not being able to get auto-updates or risking a security exploit. I don't really trust the folks on "the scene" not to try something either, and even if they don't try to pull quick one on us all, it's possible the cracks just don't work right and cause other instabilities.
Then again, 90% of the software on my computer is free/open source. Don't have a need for corporate bloatware, personally; except for Windows, which I still think is the best OS out there.
ZoneAlarm just isn't what it used to be (if it was ever really good at all). Been using Comodo for the past year or so. This offer actually makes me want to try it again, so bravo for them, I guess.

ZoneAlarm has long since been my favorite desktop firewall (tried them all) since it allows to easily preview/stop outgoing traffic - which is kindof important when you are in our kind of using-pirated-stuff-business.
But then I went Windows 7 RTM on which ZoneAlarm has multiple problems. If you're on 7 i can recommend FREE edition of Sphinx Firewall: Windows 7 Firewall Control : Sphinx Software
Small footprint, dead simple, no nagging and does exactly what you need from a desktop firewall.
