Actually, I do believe in ghosts. I mean, I'm not trying to sound weird, I'm a normal guy, it's just the souls of the dead who find they're not finished will probably roam as ghosts, and the people who do travel to somewhere else, maybe reincarnate<---(that's my opinion) or maybe they just pass on. I do believe ghosts exist, I mean everyone has had a paranormal experience before I presume...

I firmly believe in ghosts and paranormal experiences. I also believe some people are more sensitive to such things than others. And sometimes weird things happen that just defy explanation.

Hospitals are notorious for being haunted. Every one I've worked at has been haunted. My current one has a little boy who hangs around in the wing that used to be our pediatric ward. He likes to peek around corners and startle people; as soon as he gets a reaction he releases a soundless laugh and disappears. He also likes to flush toilets. Sometimes he just goes up and down the hall flushing the toilet in every room (this area no longer houses patients but is used for offices). He's just mischevious, he never threatens anyone and I've never felt frightened in his presence.

My prior hospital had a ghost nurse who would go around during the night and check on patients in the head trauma unit. Each bed had a monitor aimed at it so we could see the patients while we were out at the nurses station. Every so often we'd see a very clear, dark shadow of a female-someone leaning over a bed. We'd haul butt into the room only to find it empty and the patient soundly asleep. We also had an anethesiologist who commited suicide in the doctor's lounge; one of my doctor friends said he saw his ghost there one night but I personally never did. And then there was 1992.

I remember that vividly. He was in ICU bed 9. He was 80 years old and a Catholic priest (this was a Catholic hospital). He coded around 2 am. We did everything possible, did CPR until the sweat poured off us, gave him every ACLS medication known to mankind but nothing worked. The intern in charge of the code had aspirations of becoming a full-blown cardiologist and decided to do open cardiac massage.

So this numbskull intern cracked open this poor priest's chest, put in the sternal retractors and spread the chest wide open, then grabbed hold of the heart and used his hands to manually contract it. By this time the rest of us are literally rolling our eyes cause this priest is dead as a doornail and there's no way a twit of a wanna-be cardiologist is going to bring him back no matter what he does.

So the intern played around and had his fun then finally decided to call the code. He pronounced the priest dead and noted the time. (It was 2:37 am). We started gathering up our equipment and trying to get some semblance of order in the room, which looked like a hurricane had gone through it. We were just starting to quietly chat amongst ourselves when the priest sat up. I kid you not; his chest was ripped open from stem to stern, his heart and lungs were right there for the whole world to see because no one had removed the retractors (actually we'd just started fussing amongst ourselves over who was going to have that particular pleasure cause none of us wanted to do it). And he freaking sat up! Then he started chanting a Hail Mary. In Latin. When he got to the words "mortis nostrae" at the end he just layed back down. Then he clasped his hands on top of his poor abused chest and said "Amen." And that was all. To say we all freaked out would be putting it mildly.

Then there's my uncle Louis. He hanged himself in the bathroom of his home on October 4, 1956 when he was 15. And on the night of every October 4 since then he is still seen there, very slowly swaying. He can be seen for about half an hour, then just fades away. But he's never like a "real" ghost, he never seemed to try to interact; the best I can describe it is kind of like watching an old video or something of what happened. My grandparents continued to live there until 1985 and they sold the house to a very close family friend who still lives there. He's a cute old guy, he's 95 years old now but says he can still see well enough to see Louis! That is probably one of the few houses in my state that had a ghost listed in the disclosure papers during the house sale.
