I download MP3 files. Only because my MP3 player doesn't support FLAC. I have one of those old school ones ><
I'll download FLAC for the things I'm really after.
Good quality mp3s will do for the rest!
I prefer FLAC for new downloads, just for archiving reasons.
(to have the ability to convert to any other format i like - even in a couple of years)
For listening purposes i don't think that FLAC will make any difference than a good MP3 file.
Depends on the music. Would prefer to download flac every time, but will dowload mp3's as long as the bitrate isn't too low (256 or above).
my taste is so-so unique that i HAVE to download mp3´. if there were FLAC quality ones available, i´d be hitting that, but sadly there´s not.

Unfortunately, my Zune doesn't support FLAC, so I usually download VBR -0 MP3's most of the time. Then I will download the FLAC for archival and library purposes.
I download my music in FLAC. This way, I know I have the best audio quality possible. I can also convert the FLAC files to other formats and upload them to gain more ratio.
When syncing the music with my iPod, I use dbPoweramp to convert the music to 320kbps AAC audio files, which is the best lossy format supported by the iPod.
