I remember what it was like before I got hoocked on TV series, and it has changed the way that I watch TV. Going back to watching one eppisode a week does not hold my attention the way watching back to back shows does. I think advertisers and TV producers need to realise that there is a new way of doing things and start catering for people who want to watch TV this way. I truly believe this can be done in such a way that we, the consumer get what we want, and they get what they want. Product placement is probably the best way to facilitate this where advertisers put their product in the actual show, like Dell did in 24 series 5, they put Alienware and Dell laptops in the show and I noticed that becuase it interested me, that is the ultimate target market, i.e apealing to those that are interested in buying your product.

Does anyone else have any ideas on how to make downlaoding free and legal.

I'm not sure there is, but I know a lot of shows that air on the big tv channels (abc etc) you can watch all the episodes online, through streaming.

I think it would be possible and could bring in a lot more revenue for companies willing to do so. They would have a much bigger audience for sure. The problem is that there are stupid organizations like the RIAA and MPAA who like to stick their noses where they don't belong and try to get their grubby hands on money any way possible, all for the "sake of the artists". Riiiiiiight.

Well that's just because they still make money off ads

And yeah, I really don't like it when company whine about piracy. If you lay like xboxes out on the street unprotected, how can you expect people not to take it? So why should it be different on the internet

They wouldn't be able to earn much revenue from ads this way, imagine if you had to watch the normal number of ads, over a series of back to back shows. I think if they made it possible it would be quite expensive.. I don't know, I think not being able to watch series 4 of dexter back to back is very good for my health though.

Attempts to do this through services such as Hulu are already under way. The problem isn't really the copyright holders and content providers. They know that there is an emerging market on the internet and they are excited to be able to take advantage of it, to be sure. In reality it actually REDUCES their cost of production to put something on the internet instead of selling it to the big networks.

The problem is, the big networks and companies like Comcast, Time warner, etc, are not going to let their content providers start providing stuff on the internet for free without a fight. A lot of people think that this is why many cable internet service providers in the US are starting to push for bandwidth caps - in order to reduce the threat of online TV cutting into their profit margins.

There are a lot of ideas being tossed around right now, and if the market truly desires free TV online (ad supported, of course) then i am willing to bet that it will eventually happen. It is really just a question of when and how many corrupt megacorporations are going to need to die in order to bring on the revolution.

Eventually, yes copyright laws will be changed. it's all just a matter of time. As we grow older and information technology grows, so will the public's view on things like piracy and government will change it's ways too. We just have to wait. History proves this.

Some companies offer loyalty points schemes like the Nectar points or Airmiles scheme in the UK. The aim of advertising is to get you to buy their product maybe big companies could offer points that could be exchanged for downloading TV programs. If you knew that you would get free downloads with as much bandwidth as you liked if you did you shopping at Tesco's rather than Walmart, then you would be more enclined to shop at Tesco.
