Falling in love, infatuation (not real love), i definitely do believe in since it already happenned to me. It definitely can happen but to maintain it you'll have to meet the person sooner or later and just because you get along online it doesnt mean it will work in real life.
Hmm surprised I did not see this thread, I'm already late to the party, anyway to echo but expand on what others (J0sh for one) have said...
First of all, it is NO ONE's business to tell another human being what love is or isn't, to validate or invalidate your feelings. This goes for online or in the flesh. You don't make those decisions for other people, thus you can't judge what's in someones heart.
Second, how is meeting someone online, especially using the tools of the trade we have now (webcams, irc, skype, list goes on) different from real life? Seriously, think about the prerequisites for getting to know someone.
- Conversing at length, this includes normal chit-chat and small talk all the way to matters of the heart
- Getting to know someone's makeup, what makes them tick, what are their interests, goals, what do they do with their spare time, what drives them as an individual?
- Seeing how they conduct themselves. Granted unless you have a webcam this can be a challenge and even then it's not always positive, but let's say you have never talked with an individual except for over the phone, just as an example. You already know how their voice changes when they are nervous or unsure about something, you know the tonal differences when they are angry, or when they are happy. You can learn quite a bit by just listening
This is just the tip of the iceberg, but it is more than enough for most people. And certainly enough to develop feelings of good or bad for someone, where you take those feelings is up to you and the other person to decide, and for none of us to have the nerve to say can't exist.
If it lives, breathes, and can feel, it can exist.
(just my 2 cents)
This is really tough for me to say....
Its hard for me to comprehend how it actually works....i understand falling in love on first site, and so on, but online, its tough, because of all the lil things that make you feel the way you do, its hard to see if they are really happening, for the other person.
But what i do know is that no-one can say that its not possible, because love can be found in the farthest places and where you've never thought to look, or expected.
Its natures surprise.(True Love) that is.
And im super happy to see Jenna and Jay prove a lot of people wrong.
And that they are happy!

I believe online love is fake. I believe you can make good friends over the internet however.
