Imo its not.Yes it does have championships and stuff, but it shouldnt be considered as a sport.Thats cause it involves money.Genuine sports dont, remember the olympics.

To answer the topic question, here's a little paste from Wiki:

A sport is an organized, competitive, entertaining, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play, in which a winner can be defined by objective means. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In a sport the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the competitor when determining the outcome (winning or losing).
It's like asking "is chess a sport?" :001_tongue:

The definition of sport has defined beyond athletics. Thefore, Poker has become a sport because it is competitive and requries skills that are developed over time.

No, its not a sport, its a game. I don't think anything where gambling is involved can really be said to be a sport.

    poker is a game.

it's a fun game, but it's no sport. there's nothing you can do physically to increase your chances of winning.

No, no, no, poker is def not a sport...Poker is much closer to video games then it is to basketball. One of the biggest complaints professional poker players have is their bad diet and lack of exercise. Now some people claim the brain is the biggest muscle in the body and to some extent I think they are right. However, a sport is supposed to be physical and only assisted by the mind. IMO saying poker is a sport is like saying a debate team = LA Lakers.
