    Amadeus (1984)

I had not seen this in 15 years but it is as good as I remember. I cant imagine someone watching this and not falling in love with classical music and opera.

I had a strange experience this time however. All I could think about was that the Mozart/Salieri feud is basically the same feud we are still seeing in film. Mozart made personal and artistic operas that were not appreciated by the masses. He only made popoular operas to finance his more personal works. Salieri made big spectacle operas that were loved by all. It's basically James Cameron vs. Steven Soderbergh. :D

This is much better than I would have guessed. Charlize Theron is also far better in this than she was in her Oscar winning performance in Monster.

It's a pretty standard legal film which tells the story of the first major sexual harassment lawsuit in the US. There is nothing really special about the style or direction but it is certainly fine. The acting is really great by the whole cast.

The only really horrible part is the ending which is pretty laughably bad.

The last movie I've seen is Ninja Assassin.
    Overal rating: 6/10..

It was too "fake", the blood didn't even look real.
    Story wasn't that bad.

I watched Hachiko A Dog's Story couple of hours ago and I liked it. I haven't seen the original one, but the remake is decent in my opinion.

    Aguirre: wrath of god

I recently read Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon. It is a great book which documents the many attempts of Europeans to conquer the Amazon and find it's famed lost cities of gold. The book is non-fiction and goes to great lengths to reconstruct what it was like to explore the Amazon.

30 years earlier, with Agurrie, Herzog created a film which could have been pulled directly from that book and one that deserves all it's accolades. It is brilliant.

For years now I have seen it's iconic cover art and that image of Kinski with that look on his face. That look. Perhaps rivaled only by Maria Falconetti in The Passion of Joan of Arc, Kinski gives one of the greatest performances I have ever seen while rarely saying a word. He plays Agurrie with the hulking bent-over stride and piercing look that clearly documents his downword spiral into insanity.

Herzog basically created a documentary but wholly fictional. The film makes you feel like you are watching real events. You feel trapped in this "bountiful desert" surrounded by plants and animals yet slowly starving to death. The feeling of isolation is amazing.

The cinematography is brilliant. It starts out rather matter-of-fact, simply documenting the action. As the men descend into madness the cinematography becomes dreamlike, and in the end it is clearly removed entirely from reality. The parallel descent between character and direction is masterful.

This is without a doubt on of the best films ever made, and it's influence in clear in other films like Apocalypse Now and all of Malick's films.

    Grade: A+
