    Default Is Dance a Sport?

    Title.

I honestly think it is because I dance, so that may be a biased opinion lol. However to be able to dance good/great/AMAZING you have to go through a lot of practice so you don't look like a jackass. I pop, and honestly it can be a physical and mental endeavor. I'm just looking to see what other people think of it, in Japan and Korea poppin and breakdancing are pretty much classified as sports, they have TV shows, national competitions aired on Television, so its pretty advanced over there.

Post your opinion and hopefully we can get a discussion going

Of course, post why you think it is or is not a sport.

id say its more of an art than it is a sport.
theres competition in sports, not so much in dance, unless you are auditioning for a part i guess.
i understand the commitment and practice that dancers endure, but it is still an art like singing and painting. they have to practice all the time to get better.

It is definitely more of an art than a sport in my opinion however the competition you seek is very underground. Unless you're involved in the scene you won't be hearing about competitions, jams, battles, you're likely to hear about auditions for a group or something but even then you have to be interested and looking. Otherwise it can be very competitive especially since these events are never hosted too often so when they do dancers come out a long way to make it to the competition. Like I said in Japan and Korea dancing is actually on big television shows over there, and I'm pretty sure Japan actually has a channel dedicated/broadcasts popping and breakdancing.
