Perhaps I should have used the adverb blind to qualify the word assumption; blind assumption is the mother of all fuck ups. Most inventors also use deductive reasoning skills and are proficient at extrapolating data to make accurate predictions, so in essence your statement would be amenable to my understanding of an inventor, but proven inventors are not the only type of person to commit the mistake of making false assumptions, and are definitely not the exception to the rule.
