I don't have a virus scanner and I haven't gotten a virus ever (I check every few months) - between knowing what to click on and what not to click on, having a good firewall, and having NoScript for firefox, I haven't had any scares.

Oh yea, my in-laws PC had the Antivirus Pro 2009 malware. It was horrendous. It blocks any anti spyware software from operating and manipulates all of your search results relating to security. It took me half a day to remove this one, just nasty.

Another one which i am not familiar with the name was one which locked up our whole company of 2500 PC's.
people couldn't do their jobs for days. They had to format and reinstall EVERY PC in the whole company!

It was surreal......... Thats what they get for running XP SP2 and an anti virus with 12 month old signatures :)

maybe not the worst i've had but just the other week went on online at my parents place and got a whopper. The "virus scanner" would not let me do anything on the computer, not system restore or anything. It took me quite a while to work out my dads virus scanner- Antivirus Live was not infact a scanner but the virus itself. Google search on a another computer helped me get rid of it.

i was one affected by antivirus pro. it stops any anti virus from scanning. I was also affected by a exe virus which created an exe for every file. I had to format and reinstall the operating system.
