Default How long has your External HD & computer been on?

My HP hdx16 laptop has been on for almost 3 months now, without being shut down once.
3 days ago I decided to leave my 3tb external and my 1tb external hard drives on 24/7.
How about you guys, and any comments on the benefits of leaving things on 24/7...

My Computer doesn't have a power button and as for my external hdd, right now it is all screwed up and out of it's enclosure, hooked to my pc via sata and diskwipe can't even touch it. I am hating WD right now. 2TB hdd bout to go in the trash.

My external HDD power has been on for months, probably a couple of years in fact with out ever powering down. My PC is always on, but does occasionally reboot, with software upgrades, and there were some windows upgrades a couple of days ago that required a reboot, so strictly speaking, a couple of days, but other than those reboots, it is permanently on.

You should try not to power up your PC frequently as each time you power it up it does put strain on components. Obviously if you are not going to use it for a few days it is fine, but powering it down for an hour or 2 you probably lose more component life with the reboot than you save with having it powered down for that period.

My laptop has been on for almost 6 months solid, apart from one or two reboots....i'm expecting it to roll over and die any day now :-(

24/7, usually reboot monthly if not weekly for updates... and for the occasional error (missing a .dll file which pulls a bsod like one a month... need to reinstall windows but am to lazy too...) I run a 2600k corsair WC and about 5 120mm fans and 2 200mm for my coolermaster HAF 922... so my cpu usually runs 25c to 50c with moderate overclock of 4.6

I turn it off only for cleaning or if I'm not going to use it for more than 12 hours.

Mine was up for about a month... but Windows updates seem to have caught me sleeping last night and restarted... so I'm at about 1 hour now haha
