So seems we missed out here in Vancouver, lots of fireworks all over the world but none here :(

So just a general - did your city get some pretty cool fireworks for new years? (I heard London's was crazy good!)

My city has like huge hardcore fireworks every new years, I am from Madeira Island (Portugal), so, if you don't know it's been a tradition for years. Lots of people come here at December to see the fireworks some people see it from the ships other from Hotels with nice views. Before the new year's party, we always see the fireworks, and I know when I go for another country I'll gonna miss it.

I have to say United States, or at least my state - has really stupid, strict rules on fireworks. I went to a huge celebration close to DC and they just had lightshow set to music and no fireworks whatsoever.

When I used to live back home in Europe, our city became a warzone, the next morning when you'd walk through the streets you'd smell the sear in the air from the fireworks. When it hits midnight, everyone and their dog has fireworks. We would usually get up on the rooftop of our apartment and the entiiiiiiire city fro kilometers on and on would be filled with light off of the fireworks.

    To give you an idea...

these are all fireworks by normal people, no "officials"

it's so much more exciting meeting new year back home than in the US suburbia, unless you're in one of the big cities. I mean, I live in the NATION'S CAPITAL and even DC didn't have fireworks, can you believe that? US is soooo boring

In Madeira it's always like this New Year Fireworks, Madeira / Funchal 2011/2012 - YouTube (move the video to 1 minute). If you could have a look at that, you will find it extremely beautiful and I can say it is even better in reality. Everyone should come here at least once before dieing. Seriously.
