Default How do I connect my laptop to my HD TV?

My laptop is a Dell Precision M4300; my TV is a Panasonic (HD). I need a way to connect my Laptop to my TV so I can watch (downloaded) movies on it. I'm a noob when it comes to these things, so someone please tell me how I can do this.

    -Thanks!

The tech specs says the laptop has s-video and a VGA out. If your TV has a PC in, you could use that port in conjunction with the speaker out to the PC audio in of your TV.

Then go to your Screen Resolution or display settings and extend the display. There could also be a function (fn) shortcut on your keyboard.

Personally I would not bother, I have bought no end of cables / leads and convertors and the quality is always rubbish.

If you can not afford a new laptop with HDMI output (I cant) then buy a dedicated media player, you just plug it inbetween an external HDD and your TV,

They come with a remote very much like you would have with a dvd player and allow you to play all your files (providing you have the right one) straight onto your TV.

I tried a friends WD player for the weekend and loved it, Then went and bought a WD-TV Mini, But was very upset that it would not play half of the files the 3 year older WD player I had test driven played.

I have now got a new one that was cheaper then the WD ones, but it play everything with no problems.

If you want to know the make send me a message and I will have a look on the box, My dad bought it for me - I think he got it on Ebay for around £28gbp.

That laptop is old. You would only be able to watch SD xvid type movies in low resolution. Don't even try HD. Besides, your laptop doesn't even have the proper outputs. You will never watch HD with that setup. Go for the standalone media player like mentioned above. I recommend the WDTV live.

Do you not have compatability issues on HD movies with the WDTV Live?

    Not really.

Only twice, once with DDTrueHD audio codec, and some weird portable player codec (SD) I don't even remember the name. Everything else I've thrown at it has been fine. Only thing is there's no bluray menu support, but I don't need it.

Why wouldn't it? There isn't any other way without HDMI. Well, there's ethernet if your TV supports it.

Or your TV doesn't support full 1080p. Or your laptop has a poor onboard video processor
