Linux or unix without a doubt. Take the time to learn the CLI and GNU tools at your disposal and your productivity will increase massively. I can recommend Debian Linux or FreeBSD.

Even my grandma uses Ubuntu (It is REALLY easy to use). I also switched my mother's OS from Win XP to Ubuntu one night and she never even noticed I had done anything. She just went to the firefox icon on her desktop as she had always done.

I have given reasons on page 1 why I prefer Linux/Unix. I didn't just write 'Linux is better'.

Can Windows users actually give reasons, rather that just saying it's better?

i like windows because it is easy to use but on the other hand i really like linux because its safer and u can customize it any way u want and i think linux is better because u don't have to pay for it.

There are many user-friendly linux distributions that don't require you to ever go near the command line interface. You can use the GUI only if you prefer. Of course you will never access the true power of *nix if you chose to do this.

i have windows vista and opensuse 11.0 (kde 4 with compiz) installed on same system. suse have more graphics feature than vista and it still run faster than vista. In comparision between vista and opensuse 11.0, i will go with opensuse 11.0. opensuse 11.0 is best.

By compiz you mean compiz fusion? I personally don't use it as I use the most basic desktop environment you could imagine. All up it's about 2,000 lines of code :001_smile:

Whenever I am trying to make a linux convert (such as friends at school), I show them Gnome along with compiz fusion. It is nice to see their mouths open in awe!
