I think the iPhone is slick and the sheer number of Apps is awesome, tho like you it can be pretty slow.

I don't have one but I'm getting one next week. Biggest reason is the apps for medical stuff. As a med student I need quick access to epocrates ( drugs , side effects etc ) plus it'll help pass the time when I'm on call

i love my girlfriends. i talked her into getting one when they first launched since she has at&t. but the screen on it is slowly getting smaller and smaller lines of grey pixles are starting to fill it up.

    Short personal opinion:

    PROS:
For several reasons its the best phone there is. The interface is faster than Windows Mobile, Symbian OS and G1 google OS. Besides that, at this moment the supply of software for it is the best (apple store/ Cydia / Installer) (YES THE BEST NOT THE LARGEST). windows mobile has the most apps available but unless the come with an organized method for selling those apps, it will never be that good.

    CONS:
The fact that the device doesn't have a native MMS method, Copy&Paste, Lack of bluetooth transfer, no video recorder, no video call support and a crappy 2MP camera. those things just make me very very sad.

PROS3.0: it seems apple wants to correct several issues in the OS 3.0. It will support MMS, Copy& Paste, Bluetooth transfer and video recording. So it will still miss the last two functions, but an improvement nonetheless.

    Conclusion:
Despite all things missing, it's a hell of a device.

3.0 is fixing a bunch of stuff.

The iPhone is quite snappy, if you don't fill it up with bloatware. The only thing that makes my iPhone slow is Winterboard themes. Those can really make the darn thing sluggish. I bear with it, however, cuz my phone looks damn cool with a sweet wallpaper on that beautiful, tiny yet huge screen.

Ah, and jailbreaking makes the iPhone WAY more flexible. I use PDANet alot, which turns my iPhone into a 3G wireless modem. And with OpenSSH I can also use my iPhone as a pendrive. I dunno, I've had mine for a couple of months, and can't possibly imagine hating it. My life has even become more organized because of the native calendar app. Love that little black block.
