If I had to buy another laptop, I'd probably go for a HP. Had one ages ago and it was pretty solid.

I was looking at one of those mini laptops....
Pretty snazy, but it lack essential features like a optical disk drive & a generic CPU.
The CPU doesn't play nice with many Unix OSs. I know as my friend tried to do it. XP works fine though.
I like the sony vaio laptops cool, dont know much about specs but they look really smooth :P
Ditto.. I had a toshi and it wasn't a bad PC.. but it was as big as a house. I have one of the new 11inch sony TN's with an SSD hard disk, weighs just over a kg and a good 2hrs battery life.
Not that powerful but convenient as heck.
Dell is awesome regarding making Laptops...they just know how to curve shapes...this is the most thing I love about them !
HP isn't the best, but they will give you a lot of upgrades (250GB hard drive, another GB or 2 of RAM, DVD-RW) and be cheaper than most other places.
For me, Acer will be the cheapest among the major brands. I like Fujitsu laptops a lot too, but they are just too overpriced.
HP build quality is crap. Best build quality for PC goes to Lenovo or Sony. But ofcourse the new macbooks destroys every other laptop in terms of design and build quality, although it is a bit overpriced compared to similar spec laptops. IMO the macbooks and OSX are worth the extra cost as a long term investment.
was sticking with Sony VAIO from the beginning. This is my 4th Vaio laptop already.
