IBM! I have my Thinkpad (Celeron) for almost 3 years and its only purpose is torrenting 24/7. It never lets me down. If you're rich and into gaming buy an Alienware laptop.

The way things stand ATM,I would say both IBM and Dell are doing great
I'm using a compac and had it for over a year and it's holding up well
Sony / VAIO is good for the price. Or Toshiba is pretty good for the price range.
This is one of the best userbars I have ever seen:

I want to buy and all of your posts was usefull.. thanks
Personally I wouldn't pay more because of the brand's name.
I bought a Compal Electronics laptop 2 years ago (they sell to HP and Dell) for half the price an inferior computer would cost and it still runs all the recent games very smoothly, most of them with maximum quality settings
It's a matter of choice, there are people who buy macs and install Windows there, it's ridiculous.
I'm not saying all the people who have macs are poseurs (if you are a graphic designer it would compense) but the majority is
Most probable and reliable vendor for laptops would be Dell and IBM's Lenovo series. I currently have a lenovo T61 and have had it for 2 year now. Its a great machine and it has put up with a lot of crap. Ive thrashed it very hard...leaving it on for weeks at a time, hardcore gaming etc. Even had it dropped half a meter and nothing happend to it. I've spilt yougart in the graphics card and still runs smooth lol.(sometimes smells a little funky though...hot off yougart..,mmmmm)
But yeh, overall they dont look that nice (not my model anywayz), but they are good for performance and I'll be buying anotherone (few models up) when i get the money.
9/10 for lenovo (-1 due to non-stylish looks)
