Thread: What are some funny/entertaining speech topics?

I have to give an entertaining speech within the next couple of weeks, and I really want to get some quality ideas.

A few I have in mind are:

Things people do to save money
The benefits of not brushing your teeth
Exercising is overrated, you can spend your time doing more important things

I've never done an entertaining speech before, so preparing for this is going to be very new to me.

The hard part about this speech is that the professor wants it to have a central theme. Basically by the end of the presentation the audience should learn something as well as get a good kick out of it whether it is funny or not.

Unfortunately, this standard he has set eliminates the possibility of being able to tell funny stories about my life because I would just be going off on a tangent.

Any ideas that you guys may have would be much appreciated. I'm really stuck right now and just need somewhere and something to get me started.

Even with a central theme and with the goal of education you can still talk about personal story. Just remember to pick one where a point will fit in.

A good theme is excuse people make for things - both for themself like why they are staying up late or excuses they making to avoid things.
You should be able to make people look silly with their excuses and mark them a bit and still teach a lesson about our behavoir among ourself and others. :)

if im reading this correctly it sounds like your task is to be an educational stand-up comedian,my advice is just be yourself and talk about life in general. there are plenty of times in our life where we have done something stupid and later on it makes for a really funny story to talk about. as far as the educational aspect of it, well "experience is the name we give to our mistakes" -oscar wilde. im sure you have done plenty of dumb things when you were growing up and eventually you learned from those dumb moments. the answer is right infront of you mate just take a deep breath and stop over thinking the task at hand.
