Well unfortunately since PCs become more or less obsolete compared to the new stuff around every 5 years (or after a few years you know) I wouldn't drop more than $1000-$1500. Unless I was makin 6 figures, then I'd get a new Alienware every few years if I felt like it.

Kind of an oxymoron to put PC and Invest in the same sentence. I would recommend a nice machine and save your money to upgrade or replace in a couple years. You can always build awesome machines out of last years latest and greatest hardware without breaking the bank.

I never spend money on enthusiast-configurations. I always buy only what I need to play my favourite games (and never more).

    $2-3k is about right.

Unless you're loaded and money is nothing to you... then $10k minimum.

well not i don't have to spend that much
on my dream pc, because i don't care about state of the art graphic cards and
cpus, the mainstream would do just fine.
Only thing i care about on my pc, are the hdds. it has to have a lot of TBs of disk space!
5-6 disks of 1TB each is a good start :)
