From my limited experience, my ATI Radeon X 800 XL kicks ass on my mates Nvid 6800/. He'd probably tell u different butt ! Haha !
NVIDIA
i dont trust ATI
nVidia. Here's why:
- More games are being developed on an nVidia based platform as opposed to the ATi based platform. Although seemingly unnoticable, the changes can be noticed, and you will get overall better stability instead of just better performance when you match games developed on this platform with their corresponding GPU's.
- nVidia pioneered multi-gpu processing. Ask any gaming and pc enthusiast, and if they have done their research, you will see many more of these people running SLi as opposed to CrossFire.
- The manufacturers that produce nVidia based chipset GPU's (most of them) offer an amazing warranty for the product. For example, BFG, which I've personally used in all my systems since I can remember, offers you a lifetime warranty for your product. If you are looking for reliability- this is what to choose.
Now I am not just trying to bash ATi here. For one they are primarily a Canadian company, and a great company at that. They make great video cards and they DO offer a good support program, however they just don't have the experience that nVidia does.
Remember when 16 pipeline architecture first came out, along with the release of PCI-Express? Both companies released their respective cards for the new technology shortly thereafter, but nVidia had a small edge in producing a card with better use of the new technology for PIC-E, that had generally higher clock and memory speeds- even though the dedicated VRAM was virtually the same among the two companis' offerings. This is because many more of the nVidia manufacturers, such as BFG, XFX, and eVGA were releasing their cards prefab with overclocked chips.
So with all that said, both great companies, both incredible graphics card manufacturers, and both have good support programs, but for value, slightly better performance and the sheer experience that nVidia has, I'd have to give the slight edge, but the win, to nVidia.
Of course every person and demand is different, so ask yourself what you need the card for. Do some research on which cards work better with which CPU's, and read articles on PC tuning websites. That shared experience will give you an idea that a simple opinion or preference from a user never could.
Good luck =)
Nvidia, because they are always seem to run my games without a problem and they always have new features for their GPU's.
NVidia 9600 GT @ 1 GB for GTA IV all maxed out gives me 40 fps, hell yeah !
My ATI has been great since I got it, well worth it's price. ATI Radeon HD 4890
