    Default Quitting smoking *frustration*

I've been a smoker since I was 18, I mean, I started "smoking" when I was 16 actually, but I really don't consider that time as actually being a smoker since I only smoked a couple of cigarettes a week...
Anyway, I'm almost 23 now and have been smoking about a pack/pack and a half a day for the last 3-4 years.
I've never actually been bothered by the price and even less bothered by the health aspects and dangers of smoking.
Also, I always got annoyed whenever a non-smoker would lecture me on how bad it is for me and my surrounding, or how and why should I quit.

About a week ago, for no apparent reason, without suddenly going bankrupt or becoming violently ill I decided I was going to quit!
No more cigarettes, and this time its for good!
I want us to discuss the issue of smoking on this thread, what are your thoughts of smokers? Smoke bans?
Also, any of you ex or non smokers out there in the TI universe that have any suggestion, motivation or just want to help out, I'm open for anything!
Also - Poll, just for the heck of it.
    :)

Good luck with your decision to quit. It's not easy to do, but you can do it if it's important to you. The trick is to get to a point where you haven't smoked for 4 - 6 weeks. By then your body's cleared out the nicotine + if you have a cigarette at that point you will get really sick which usually seals the deal. I don't know what will work for you.. nicorette gum, regular gum, willpower.. but you'll get there if you resolve to.

As to why a lot of non-smokers give smokers a hard time? Because we all have to breath the same air. I don't care about your other vices because you're not forcing me to adopt them. But smoking is unreasonable because you're also forcing me to breathe the smoke too and I'm going to say something about it.

im a smoker, and i enjoy it very much. i know all the health aspects that go with smokiing. and i would like to quit sometime in the near future. however, the one thing i know is that in order to kick the habit, you need one thing above all else. The will power to quit. something at this moment i do not have. there are many effictive aids out there to help someone to quit. they are all useless if the person does not have the desire and will to want to quit.
right now in my life, im not ashamed to admit that i quite enjoy my Marlboro lights.
hell, im smoking right now as i type.
there are less and less places to smoke nowadays, and im grateful that the U.S. govt. is still allowing me to smoke in my own house. For how long? who knows.
i abide by non-smokers wishes to a certain point. i will not smoke in their cars, houses or usually any enclosed strutures, other then my own house.
i have both smoking and nonsmoking friends. And it usually is not an issue.
so here's my ending advice to any smoker out there wishing to quit..before you buy any products, make sure you are commited to quitting. you must have the will power first.
If not, your just going to waste your money and continue to smoke.
    good luck.

I think to achieve your goal you really need to get something instead of smoking, something you can't do instead of smoking a cigarette. Always when you want to smoke a cigarette take a chewingum instead or solve a sudoko or do something different to play with your hands - be creative. This way you don't miss smoking that much. Good luck !

Non-smoker here. Not the pretentious "all smokers are morons" type of guy, but smoking doesn't really do much for me. Tried it once or twice and couldn't really get into it. Probably a good thing, because the compromised health is something I could do without and I don't really have the cash to keep a pack in my pocket every week.

My stepdad used to smoke when I was younger, and it annoyed the hell out of me. He just up and quit one day though, and he did it cold turkey. It can be done. Though I've never had to quit smoking before, so I couldn't tell you just how easily.

I've tried it once or twice as well when I was a lot younger and I just didn't see the appeal. I know people that have gone cold turkey and they've managed to quit that way but it would certainly take a great deal of self-control.

I have never smoked cigarettes. My wife, however, smoked when we met, and had been smoking at that point for maybe 9 years. She smoked a lot, but I don't know for sure. Anyway, like you, she just sort of came to the conclusion that she no longer wanted to smoke. That was it. She didn't smoke again. There were a few times during those first few weeks where she admitted to wanting a cigarette. Those situations occurred either when we were around other smokers or if we were drinking. These days she actually hates cigarette smoke more than I do, and I have asthma!

Point I want to make is this: Nicotine gum, patches, Chantrix-- that stuff is for people who deep down don't want to quit. If you really want to quit, then just stop. The first few weeks will be rough, but then you'll start to realize how dead your senses were because of the cigarettes. Food will taste better. Your sense of smell will improve. Eventually the good will outweigh the addiction and you'll never look back.

I started smoking when I as 14 and I am only an occasional smoker now at the age of 34. Maybe one real cig a month when I am with an old friend that still smokes. If you want to quit, you should try vaping with an electronic cig. It will take care of cravings while you are weening your self off the real things. Get a strong one though. The ones the size of real cig don't put out enough vape imo.

I hate the bans the cities are putting into effect. I don't mind not being able to smoke in public areas, but I really don't understand how a city can ban smoking in a private business. If the owner of a bar or club wants to let their customers smoke on their property, they should be allowed. If you don't like it, don't go there. I'm just waiting for them to ban fattie foods from fast food joints.

Man, if you were to talk to me about quitting 3 weeks ago I would have said exactly the same.
    "I enjoy smoking".
That's BS, you and I both know that...
Let me ask you this - You say you enjoy smoking, fair enough, yet if I tell you that I can make it so that tomorrow you wake up in the morning with the feeling and KNOWING that you will NEVER, EVER want another smoke again, not even one. In fact, you will be rejoicing about it, would you take me up on that offer?
Of course you would, every smoker would too.
So if smoking is enjoyable, why would any smoker want to quit? People pay money to have a good time, so money isn't a real reason.
Because deep down inside, every smoker knows he is killing himself slowly, becoming socially banned and emptying his bank account for a really dumb reason - He "enjoys" smoking.
    Think about it mate.

    P.S
2.5 weeks of not smoking a single cigarette, keep your fingers crossed for me fellas!
    :D
