Okay so it's pretty obvious what most, if not all, of you are going to think about the FCC and Net Neutrality. But how do you guys feels about the FCC moderating other things? The FCC has it's hand in pretty much every media outlet including terrestrial radio, television, and news media. Pretty much the only mediums that are still unmoderated are satellite radio (if you don't count program managers at SIRIUS) and good ol' internet.
What do you think about moderation of violence and profanity on the TV and radio? Also, do you think the FCC should regulate news media? I'm talking about the FCC banning media outlets for having cross-outlet ownership (have you ever noticed news stations on TV don't have radio stations except on XM radio?) Do you think media is capable of regulating itself? Or is that the duty of the viewer to control what kind of programs they and their children are watching?
Personally, I don't like the FCC at all. I think people are capable of making their own decisions about what they want to see on TV and hear on the radio. If you look at quality, shows on XM like O&A are actually more entertaining when they're not watered down to the cut and dry standards of terrestrial radio. The same goes for censorship on TV or in music videos (especially music videos. I think everybody hates garbled censoring in music).
As for news outlets, Companies that support popular opinion receive more ad funding because of viewership. It makes sense to allow businesses who have high approval to extend their voices. I think news media is probably the LAST place where we should have censorship and stipulations.
What do you guys think???
