Thread: Group of people arrested for feeding homeless

Anyone else think this is bullshit? They say rules are meant to be broken and this is definitely one of them It doesn't get more harmless than feeding homeless people. How stupid is this? Isn't the purpose of the law to protect people?

Why would there be a law "...which bans the mass feedings without a permit." O.o
Shouldn't feeding someone who can feed himself be an act of charity not bound by law?
Next thing I wouldn't be able to give out money or donations without a proper permit... 1984, anyone?
This is horrible.

Yeah, it really upsets me to see this. I live in the city and am constantly surrounded by tons of homeless people. There is this one woman and old man that I buy a bagel and coffee for every morning on my way to the gym. They don't expect it, they don't harass me for it, but I feel it's my right to help feed someone who is hungry and can't take care of them-self due to mental or physical issues.

Having mass feeding programs around the country would be an incredible opportunity for the homeless even if it were just once a week. It blows my mind how the law can go against the simple act of giving away food to those in need. Sure there are some risks, but I think all the homeless who are starving on the streets would be willing to accept those without a second thought.

I didn't know there was a law against feeding homeless people. It sounds like the time my mom told me not to feed the cat that was coming up to our door because it would become dependent on us. We couldn't afford to feed that cat, why would a charity organization who gets donations not be allowed to feed people? Ridiculous.

I'm glad so many people agree. I'd like to get this story more widely known because it really is a damn shame there's a law in place against something as innocent as this. I sent the link to some radio shows and popular bloggers, hopefully everyone else will get the word out too.
