    Default Solve This Math Problem

Alright all one of my friends on Facebook put this on her status and it is turning into a big debate and I have looked this problem up myself and funny thing is that the two answers are almost split so I want to see what the world of T-I says. I will give you both answers that people are arguing between.

YOUR MISSION SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT IS TO

    1. SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND GIVE ME YOUR ANSWER
    2. TELL ME HOW YOU CAME UP WITH THAT ANSWER
    3. ANSWER THE POLL.

*IF YOU ONLY GIVE ME THE ANSWER AND NOT HOW YOU CAME UP WITH THE ANSWER I WILL DELETE YOUR POST.

    BODMAS
    Brackets
    Other
    Divide
    Multiply
    Subtract

    Therefore, do the brackets first:
    48/2(12) which is just 48/(12x2)
    48/24 = 2

I change my mind. It's either. It needs proper clarification.

    48/2 x (12) = 288
    48/(2 x (12)) = 2

I myself came up with the same conclusion using Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally which means Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction 48÷2(9+3)

    48÷2(12)
    48÷24
    =2

    hmmm no, bodmas gives 288.

    48/2(9+3) gives
    48/2(12)

If you do devision first you get 24*12 which gives you 288.

Although i have been taught to give piority to brackets and stuff so i did 2(12) first and i get 2, so i will stick with it :P

first the add from the brackets > 9+3=12
then start working outside, dividing first > 48:2=24
after dividing i did the multiplication to the answer from the brackets > 24x12=488

    you guys suck at math

    48/2 x (9 + 3)

    1)Brackets (9+3)=12
    2)Division 48/2= 24
    3)Multiplication 24x12=288

i used BODMAS/PEMDAS in a step by step fashion
i am quite sure that the answer should be 288

    Classic PEMDAS problem.

    Please - Parenthesis
    Excuse - Exponents
    My - Multiply
    Dear - Divide
    Aunt - Add
    Salley - Subtract

    1) 48 / 2 (12)
    2) 24 (12)
    3) 24 x 12 = 288

    288

Don't you have to add the brackets, then divide 48 by 2, which gives you 24, times 12, equals 288. Right?

You don't multiply 2 by 12 because you have to work from the left to right.

By the way, the rest of that is Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally, She Left - Right away. :)

    I think it's 288.

    48 / 2 * (9 + 3)
    48 / 2 * (12)
    24 * 12
    288
