I'm one of the few who liked St Anger. Both bands are fantastic, but if I had to choose I'd go with Maiden.

I like 80's Metallica, but these days they've become too mainstream and I'm pretty sure 'Death Magnetic' is just basically just codeword for 'St Anger II'. The new songs sound very similar.
