Thread: How do you sort your Music on your Computer?

First of all, let me know if this is the correct place to post a topic and I searched the forum for some kind of the same problematic and didn't found anything so here it is.

After a long time of using Torrents (most of all music) my Hard Drive was full and I decided to clean it up a little bit.



The main question was how do I organzie my music? Most of my files are scene rls's. At the moment I have 2 external HDD's one of 500GiB and 250GiB all the downloads are going to the 250 and the sorted on the 500th. So I decided to sort them by the first letter of the artist.

For example:
G:/Music/F/Fedde Le Grand/[2011] Autosave/Fedde Le Grand - Autosave (Original Mix).

Maybe you could post some examples so other have some kind of "inspiration" .

G:/Music/2011.03
G:/Music/Best 2011 ...and subfolder of diferrent genre of music

I only get Discographies - if I like one song by an artist, I get the collection.

So it's an external hard drive - with a Music and Music Videos folder, inside the folder is for example "Eminem - Discography" or "John Mayer - Discography" folders. Inside those are folders for each album, and then the songs in each album.

I currently have 70 gigs of music, and 147 artist discographies

You can do them by genre, by years (60-s, 70-s....), by letters, by music you like most, by quality .... You can sort them however you like. :)

I posted this topic to see other examples and yes I know how I can sort.

Just like Jschro14 I do not download single tracks but only full albums of the artists I like.

I basically have one big music library which does the sorting by alphabet.
It includes one folder for every artist/band and subdirectories for their respective albums.

In wmp I can easily sort and search the files I want to listen to using multiple filters, so I don't have to do that by sophisticated folder structures anymore

Good topic Maybe someone will give good advice, have organize folder with music. Currently I have all the music in one folder with the name A to Z

Mine is all in a Music folder, then artist, then album.

For example.

B:\Seagates\Music\Three Days Grace\One X\song1.mp3
B:\Seagates\Music\Three Days Grace\Life Starts Now\Song1.mp3
B:\Seagates\Music\Armin Van Burren\A State of Trance\Episode 500.mp3

Just a few examples..

Mine is exactly the same as Freu's: (and I don't alphabetize)
..\Music\ *Band* \ *Band* - *Album* (Year) \ *Track#* - *Track*.mp3

ie. ..\Music\Guided By Voices\Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (1994)\18 - I Am a Scientist.mp3

I also tag my tracks up using mp3tag for uniformity across my music player :D
