    Default Rock Band 3

I picked this up last week for the ps3 and snagged the keytar accessory and I must say that I couldn't be happier. The keys have quickly become my favourite instrument to play, and that's coming from someone who plays a mean plastic guitar.

My roommate has played piano his entire life, and nearly instantly understood how to play pro keys mode. Admittedly, it did take him a while to map out which line corresponded to which note, once he got it down, there was no stopping him. I can do expert on normal keys mode with relative ease (on most of the songs), but pro mode is another story. Also, it's disorienting at first since I'm accustomed to not having to hold down a note, then let it go, then depress it again in order to play it twice (on guitar you just strum twice, for example).

Also, the revamped career mode is legit. The introduction of spades and additional challeges other than score/stars is very welcome, and the rewards feel well-earned.

What do you guys think? Favourite songs/band performances?

Sounds great. I'm really looking forward to getting the keytar thingo as well but just haven't gotten around to picking it up yet. Got back from an overseas trip yesterday and had a pickup slip for the game. About to play it for the first time shortly!

I hope the process for getting songs and such from the older games isn't too annoying/tedious.

    Yeah, it works like this:
Pay $5 to export Rock Band 1 songs unless you already purchased it .
Pay $10 to export Rock Band 2 songs.

So...not too terrible, especially if you can rent the games on the cheap. Either way, nothing like playing a ton of songs in one sitting. :))

I'm going for the endless setlist with about 20 friends this Sunday. Yikes.

Played it for a few hours... good fun as always. Thanks for the info re. exporting -- sounds good. I did notice that it picked up my RB1 export already so just have to do it for RB2... bit lame that they're charging more for that, though, especially given that it's just paying them money to let you use something you already have! Ah well.

I like some of the things in it... and the challenges are cool (though the streak ones seem way more annoying than the others, especially on certain songs)... but I do miss the touring mode a bit I think... seems to have lost a bit of the sense of progression? I dunno. I guess the road challenge is sorta the same but it seems a bit too much like just picking random songs and playing them, rather than actually touring around? I dunno... just the random impression I guess.

Also the game seems wayyyy too focused around the idea of everyone playing pro mode on every single instrument... and that's obviously not going to happen for 99.9% of people... as in, once you get to a certain point all that's left is to do pro challenges for other instruments and I doubt many/any people would have the stamina for that (though there'll always be someone who will do it, no doubt).

Anyway, still very keen on it. Much the same experience with the keytar thing as well... as in, easy to pick it up even on Expert right off the bat... but even the tutorials for the Pro mode have me a bit miffed. I guess that's good though! Definitely something to look forward to learning, even if it seems like it'll be a long journey... maybe I can even finally convince my muso friends to actually give the game a look for once, heh.
