Thread: Riddles

Nice. I had a hunch that's what it was, but not entirely sure.

Let the fun continue:

Theres a man who lives on the 10th floor of an apartment building. Everyday when he goes to leave, he takes the elevator down to the lobby and walks out. When he returns he does something strange. If it is a rainy day, or if there is someone else in the elevator with him, he takes it all the way to the 10th floor. But any other circumstance he goes up to the 7th floor, gets out, and walks the rest of the way. Why does he do this?

He is a midget, his hand only goes till 7th floor. But on rainy day he have an umbrella to press the button and with someone he asks them lol

Okay, here's one for the road....

Every four years, in the village of Casanova in Orion, the rice-piling ceremony takes place at the appointed hour on the given feast day.

When the ceremony begins, one grain of rice is placed in a chosen spot outside the witch-doctor's hut. Exactly one hour later, two grains are added; after a further hour, three more grains are added, and so on-every hour, one more grain is added to the quantity that was added in the previous hour.

The ceremony continues non-stop until there are exactly enough grains to give each of the 23 poorest villagers a square meal, i.e. a meal consisting of a quantity of rice that is a perfect square-each of the 23 villagers receiving exactly the same as each other.

Assuming that each ceremony ends before the next one begins, what is the number of rice grains that each of the 23 villagers receive?

will not give the answer here though, maybe someone will come up with another way to solve this

Thanks Mac, nice one again. How can you keep coming up with all these riddles. Did you find a riddle treasure somewhere? BTW I'm a hawk owl, and as far as I know they don't eat fish, but small rodents =] But you're right, my sight is very sharp now, unlike the dog. I had made small mistake in the logic of the programming (in relation to the riddle) in my last post, but will leave it that way
