@soretyo, trevor88 and ac8409: Great going guys! Thanks for attempting my riddle and I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Congratulations! You've all hit the Bull's-eye! Here's a quick summary...
The solution is in the way the question is worded. You cannot add what one person HAS to what someone else has PAID and come up with any kind of a meaningful number, you have to subtract.
Each man has paid $9. $9 x 3 = $27
The bellboy has $2
_____________________________
Therefore, the difference=$25 and the Innkeeper has it!
Now, to look at it from the standpoint of the original $30:
Each man has $1. $1 x 3 = $3
The bellboy has $2
The Innkeeper has $25
_______________________________
Therefore, the total is $30
@ac8409:Thanks for letting my imagination run wild! Although my naughty side could have come up with many more interesting solutions to your riddle, but a chewing gum and a hard candy on a cold day(tried & tested!), would also have the same effect.
Here's an easy one!
A man holding a chicken, a fox, and a bag of corn comes to a river with a rowboat that can hold him and one other object. Keep in mind he can't leave the fox with the chicken or the fox will eat it or leave the chicken with the corn for the same reason.
Question:How does he get them all across?
All the best!
