Hello, I never really play my Xbox-360 anymore and want to get back into it. I was wondering if there was a way to mod it so that I can play burned games on Xbox live without getting banned.

Hey, whats up. Welcome to TI. Well if you are wondering if you can mod a xbox360. Yes. Depends on what dvd drive you have. You would have to flash the firmware with a computer, and get a iXtreme LT firmware. Their are tutorials on the net. But yes this is possible.

Nobody will escape his wrath, youd wish you'd never been born. Made from the Devil, raised by God. He'll make you shiver, and take care of you at the same time. Don't question his actions, or you will pay greatly. Nobody doubts his minds, 'cuz in the end, he'll end up victoriously. He's everlasting, a true elevated. Well as insane said, u can mod it (depending on which version u have) BUT u can NEVER be sure that u will not be banned.
Ban waves from microsoft come now and then... so there is high probability, that if u mod your xbox, sooner or later u will be banned.
I have to agree with what InsanePinoyBoy and derailed says. Even though people "say" iXtreme LT (whatever version), in undetectable, thats not possible. The second you sign on to XBL, certain things are sent to Microsoft. Among those things, there is a piece of information that shows Microsoft something is modified. However they won't ban you right then and there. They flag your console, for a "ban wave". A ban wave is basically a period of time, usually during holidays to bring up sales, which Microsoft bans thousands of modded consoles.
tl;dr- You want live, don't mod console. You want offline- mod console.
I have a modded 360 and have modded tons of my friends. As of right now, there is a way to be on xBox live undetected, and that is with the most recent iXtreme firmware, called iXtreme LT. Contrary to what the above posts might say, as of right now MS is not able to detect iXtreme LT firmware. You know this is true because if you currently sign on with a console modded with a firmware version older than LT, you will get banned pretty quickly. Using LT you are not banned. If they were pooling consoles for a mass ban, they wouldn't be currently banning older firmware mods.
Having modded my systems over a year ago, several of my buddies were caught in the ban before LT came out. However, doing the math, I gave them over 100 burned games, saving them a retail cost of nearly $6000. If instead of buying games ever again you have to go buy a new $150 console every year as a result of a ban wave, you still wind up thousands ahead. Think about that - that's less than the cost of 3 games and you're back online playing whatever you want for another year. Even if they caught me once a year, this would still be the way to go.
The first thing that I would recommend doing is to check to see if your console can handle iXtreme LT. Currently there are versions out for only the Lite-On and Ben-Q versions of the xBox 360 DVD drive. There are 4 different manufacturers of drives, if you have a Samsung or Hitachi you're SOL at the moment. Check out this link in order to determine which kind of drive you have.
If you end up deciding you want to try it, you may want to check out your local Craigslist postings if you live near a big city. For me, in Chicago, there are tons of postings every day for people willing to mod for less that $20 USD. Really - for the cost that some of these people charge it is easier to pay them to hassle with it yourself. If you do decide to try on your own though, you will need a special SATA controller (like this), possibly an external adaptor like the Xecuter (depending on your drive) and tons of software. If you need some help let me know and I would be happy to point you in the right direction. Go here and download some of the beginner's guides if you want to do some reading up.
Im going to have to disagree with you mate. I understand where u are coming from. And I have been doing this for about 4 years. Their is NO FOOL PROOF METHOD TO NOT BEING BANNED! You may think it's undetected, but this is only a front. They may not ban u now, they might ban u later. And to add to this script, I have modded about a good 20 or so xbox's. I started when it was first called xtreme firmware 4.0, then moved to the ixtreme, then moved to ixtreme lt. I still have boxes from customers that are still online today WITH, the older versions of Xtreme and iXtreme firmware. They are currently NOT BANNED! What I did different before everything else, is THAT I MADE SURE THAT BOX I AM MODDING HASNT BEEN ONLINE! They are fresh boxes brand new. I think doing this, and then connecting online is the safest way, bcuz i havent upgraded the firmware since. If u connect before to play games, then, get it modded, then reconnect after being modded puts ur live account at risk!
Also, I did one of the most impossible and hardest firmware to date, when it was hard at the time. I have modded the Hitachi 79FL! This is NOT the 78 where u can put it into mode B with a cd. The 79FL was supposedly unhackable, and only with a passkey. I bought the passkey, and soldering on the chip was FRICKEN HARD! Do u want to know why, Because they covered the chip with some BLACK EPOXY to prevent getting to the chip and legs. So I had to grab a heat gun, slowly heat it up without burning the PCB board, and try to remove the glue. This took a long time, then I soldered to the chip after I got rid of the glue, flashed it, tested. Came out OK.
One last bit of information. As stated, BenQ and Liteon is the only drives with the ixtreme firmware as of now. Samsung and Hitachi is still on the older firmwares. I personally have a XBOX ELITE, Modded Fresh from the Box, with iXtreme 1.51. I love this firmware. I dont even need to upgrade to the latest anyway like the BenQ and Liteon. Bcuz they had hard times with the wave 4 games and after. I AM CURRENTLY ONLINE AS OF NOW AND NOT BANNED! PLAYING SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV.
HOPE THIS POST HELP YOU!
Thanks if this helped you

So just out of curiosity, I remember reading a while back about the benefits of having one of the first generation 360's. There was something having to do with jtag and old xenon board based systems. From what I have heard however their is always a chance to get banned on live.
You need an Xbox 360 with firmware prior to kernel 2.0.8495.0. That specific firmware update patched the exploit which allowed you to run arbitrary code. By using custom firmware, it's easy for M$ to detect and ban you. However, the custom DVD firmware uses so-called "stealth" checks to bypass detection. Check out Xbox-Scene.org for more info.
Thank you InsanePinoyBoy. Very well written, just what I was gonna say. There is no fool-proof method to not get banned if you have a modified Xbox. All they have to do is make a system update that checks the firmware on your Xbox Drive, and bam flagged.
tl;dr: It's your risk if you get banned on XBL with a modded console. Some people get banned, some do not.
What you are talking about a JTag'd xbox. What that is, is a console that can run un-signed code. However, JTag's can be easily detected and are banned within hours. What you're talking about, Xenon, is an Xbox 360 motherboard. It is the most common of motherboards for JTag-ers, however it is more prone to get RRoD(Red Ring of Deathed). Anyway enough rambling, if you would like more information feel free to PM me or come on the IRC channel.
Yeah I had heard about the JTag'd box, it is entertaining how some people think one idea is foolproof to another, I think I have heard other places how infallible the JTag'd boxes are, along with the custom firmware. Like armpits I guess everyone has their own opinions eh?
