At this point flashing any of the Xbox 360s (minus the Xbox 360 S, which hasn't been exploited yet) is easy. If you have any of the drives (Hitachi/Samsung/BenQ/Lite-On) before the Lite-On 74850C you require no extra hardware. For the Lite-On 74850C you can build yourself a probe, purchase a Team Xecuter Probe or similar or even solder your TX and RX and bridge them to extract your key. If you have one of the new(er) Lite-On 83850C or 93450C again you will need a probe like the Team Xecuter Probe 2 and some or no soldering skills.
When the Lite-On 83850C or 93450C drives were first exploited there was a bit of soldering involved to bridge connections to extract the key. Obviously if you have no clue on how to solder this would seem difficult. Those without a clue that had attempted it have been known to destroy their PCB for their drive and you can find plenty of pictures out there of soldering jobs gone terribly wrong. Now you can buy "solderless" kits from Team Xecuter that only require you to make trace cuts.
So there are many options out there no matter what drive you have. I would recommend to look at what type of drive you have (Plenty of images out there to show what drive you have by looking at the tray) grab the latest copy of the Jungle Flasher PDF and read it several times on what to do for your drive and get comfortable with what would/will be involved before attempting it. If you have the newer drives look into everything that is out there for you, as there are user friendly options out there for the completely inexperienced out there.
Having modded my systems over a year ago, several of my buddies were caught in the ban before LT came out. However, doing the math, I gave them over 100 burned games, saving them a retail cost of nearly $6000. If instead of buying games ever again you have to go buy a new $150 console every year as a result of a ban wave, you still wind up thousands ahead. Think about that - that's less than the cost of 3 games and you're back online playing whatever you want for another year. Even if they caught me once a year, this would still be the way to go.
Yea I actually just modded two Xbox 360's today. The LiteOns are definitely the hardest to mod, since they require extra hardware to flash. The other ones require nothing extra except for a SATA port on your desktop. Just google for "Jungle Flasher Tutorial", there is an excellent tutorial on JungleFlasher's website. iXtreme LT is out for all DVD drives except for the one in the new Xbox 360 Slim.
