Heroes of Newerth is still on beta right now, and i have been playing for about a month now. I feel that it is going to be successful, it's still on beta and there is a big community already. Lot's of addons useful that are posted on the forums. Really good jump from War3 engine.

But is it worth your 30 bucks? any opinions?

I'm still having doubts since Icefrog joined valve to create a stand-alone dota of his own. I hate it when a community is being split up by good games.

It was fun at first but lost interest, personally worth about $20 in my opinion. I'm just not interested anymore got to beta when it first started then it got to be a hassle to play.

After reading that Icefrog, DotA creator is hired by Valve, I can clearly say - NO. Valve always delivers.

For dummies, DotA is a Warcraft 3 custom map/mod popular in competitive gaming communities, and Heroes of Newerth is a clone of DotA.

League of Legends is a better buy.
HoN is just a Dota revamp with better graphics, aint all that great.
Stick to dota and save your money or just try out League of Legends.

I think DotA is better than HoN, well at least at the moment. HoN is too focused on the whole player vs player concept and they have forgotten a bit about all the DotA pushing heroes and supporters imho. Apart from that they have a quite limited selection of heroes compared to DotA, so what they have left is the better graphics and some bugged game mechanics. But well it's still a beta, so let's see what happens :)
With that said, I support what jellyfish says:

I gave the beta a go. However i was never into DotA in Warcraft. But it's not really a regular game.
It's useful as a addon/mod but as a single game imo not worth paying for.

I dunno, i played the beta, but HoN seems (although better graphics etc...)...it doesn't seem as authentic as DotA.

I even preferred DotA when it was really young, and hadn't had any retarded heros/items added.

Actually Eul was the creator of DOTA. Icefrog is just the current leader of the project.
I think that I like Eul best of all the DOTA contributers - mainly because of his many pop culture references, which make the game so funny. I mean like - Lina Inverse from Slayers... Faceless Void, Dagon, Necronomicon, etc. from Lovecraft... Heart of Terrasque from D&D... Zeus from Greek mythology. I just love this stuff.
Hon is very nice when you get used to it. It is lacking in hero count, but there are just so many useful additions to it - like if you get disconnected from a game - you can then just reconnect. Also when I tried playing Dota with people from other countries - the delay was unbearable - with HoN there is no such issue. And the graphics are way nicer. Although I really miss Lina being Lina, and not as just some dude with a flamethrower.
What do you think about the two new heroes? I believe they're pretty nice - they're both very good pushers and contribute new tactics to the gameplay, also the archer is a wicked farmer. Although they're still crying for a nerf.

I think it may be worth the 30 bucks, as it's still in early beta and will hopefully get a lot better in the future.
