i want to gift my son ...which i choose ps3 or 360

There is a games section down in the off topic where threads like these should be posted. And there is already at least a few 360 vs. PS3 threads in there.

To answer your question though, it really depends on taste. If he wants to get together with friends online buy a 360. Nothing beats the 360 online service. However PS3 probably has more/better exclusives nowadays. Whatever you choose, I'm sure your son will be very happy with it.

My son has both,he never plays his ps3 but he likes to be online with his friends so i guess thats why he plays his 360 more. There are some pretty cool games for ps3 and from what ive seen the ps3 seems to have the edge with graphics but they are both good systems in there own way.

Get a brand new xbox 360 elite, mod it yourself its not hard to do, then never buy a crappy $60 game ever again this is just my opinion well i was in a similar situation like a month ago and this is the route i went. Although i have modern warfare 2 pre-ordered cause you gotta support the few games that are actually worth money.

depends on games really, a lot of people will prefer 360 because of the halo series, for me I hate halo, i like the ps3 plateform a lot more.

Full ack. Depends on the games. There are some great exclusives for the ps3 and some other for the 360. Question is which one your son wants to play.
When your son plays a lot of online the 360 might be the better choice because of xbox live, but you have to pay for it.
When your son wants to watch some Bluray's, the PS3 is obviously the better idea.

Never tried the ps but i love my 360 essp since i can mod it. I also like to play movies on it via usb stick

PS3 if you have money,and want blue ray and good graphics
xbox 360 if you want more game and want cheaper

If you're buying the console strictly for gaming and want to pay for XBL (worth it if you game a lot and want a timesuck), then go with the X360. The older xbox 360s have a failure rate of over 25% (which is fucking abysmal), where the gpu overheats and the motherboard warps (keep in mind microsoft is a software company, only recently have they got into hardware with zune/xbox). This is covered under warranty but the exchange process takes weeks/months.

Go with the PS3 if you want the best Blu-ray player, awesome for HDM playback (use mkv2vob to remux high definition .mkv files). Rock solid hardware (less than 1% failure rate) and way better GUI than the X360. Oh yeah, it plays games too, and PS online is free unlike XBL.

Personally, I use my X360 solely for playing pirated x360 games offline. I use my PS3 for HDM playback and to play games I purchase online for free, screw paying for XBL. My X360 hardly gets any use, gaming is not as fun as it used to be (for me anyways) since Developers started putting graphics/physics in front of gameplay and storyline.
