For those of you that were lucky enough to getting into the beta testing, I want to know what you guys think.

For those that aren't sure what it is, here we go.

Heros of Newerth is brought to you by the people who brought you Savage and Savage 2. I have never played either of those games but this game seems to take place within the Savage universe.

But anyways, HON is basically an updated Dota Allstars. For those who played Dota 3.x or Allstars, you will feel pretty familiar with the gameplay as well as the heroes. The Setinal are now Legion and The Scourge are Hellbourne. The heroes go by different names and have slightly different abilities, but there are a good number of heroes that directly correlate to Dota. There was a thread on the HON forums for all of the charcater parallels.

As you can see there are some new characters as well. Since this is the beta, there are some heroes who are compeltely OP and destroy no matter who plays them. And on the other side of things, there are those heroes who just get pwned when they come up against any hero.

The layout seems pretty stardard. You log in and you see the different games that are being hosted up top and a chat box below with a friends list. Joining games is easy just double click on any game that isn't full and you are in. A feature I like is with the friends list. You can write click on a friends name who is in a game (3 friend categories: Online, In Game, Offline) and you can click "join game" and if the game isn't full or already started, your playing with your friend.

Now I said that the layout was pretty standard, well press F6 and pops up a tool bar at the top that allows you to view your chats or stats of players and a more extensive friends list appears to the right. This is also where you IM your friends. A window pops up in the middle of your screen and you can type away. This is available ANYWHERE in the game... even during loading screens.

The gameplay is exactly like Dota. There are two maps, however only one is really being used right now and that one is identical to the standard Dota map. Some of the creep locations might be a little different but no one's really going to notice. They also still have the secret locations (which means there are still the recipes for better items).

The games graphic are much better than WC3 graphics but at the same time, they're nothing special. They look nice but it's nothing that's going to blow you away. The thing that really stuck out is the sound effects. They sound GREAT! Some of the abilities just sound so beautiful or just epic. They might get old after a while but in comparison to WC3... they are much better.

Speaking of ablitlies, they are no longer at the bottom right of your screen, but simply moved over a little bit to the bottom center of you screen. Not a big change but something to note.

As of right now in the beta, there are 4 different types of gameplay: standard, random draft, single draft and death match. Standard is standard, you get to pick the hero of your choice and random is random. Single draft limits you to certain heros and as for death match, I have yet to try it out. There are only a few death match games and they're usually full of people who play like crazy. There are also 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 and the normal 5v5 games. The only ones I have tried out so far are the 4v4 and 5v5 and they pretty normally.

I briefly mentioned the player stats a little bit earlier, and that is standard. It has the players level, games played, your win/loss ratio, kills, deaths, ect. You level up by gaining experience through winning games and how well you play during that game. I'm still only level 2 so I have a while to go.

I have already talked for much longer than I expected to but that is pretty much it. There are a few things I did not touch on, but those things can be overlooked for now. But overall, the game is a lot of fun and and runs really well. Only once did I lag and that was because I was torrenting

If this sounds like fun and you really want to get a key, search around for invites... I'm sure you'll find some. If you are REALLY desperate, there is one up on Ebay

I have a select few invites I wouldn't mind giving to people who will actually use and take care of them. This game is a blast but I don't have enough time to play it as much as it deserves.

Please note it is one of the only strategy games with true cross-platform support for both macosx and linux, so if that's your thing check it out. For people who don't like dota/demigod etc. you will NOT like this game. There is no single player aspect to this game. If you aren't willing to take time to learn and be a good team mate you will not have any fun here.

I've played HoN for quite some time now and I really like it. Tried to play DotA yesterday and I thought it sucked compared to HoN, even though I've been an active DotA player for many years..

The only thing missing in HoN are a couple of heroes, except from that HoN is a far more complete and superior game..

Feel free to whisper me if you want some invites :)
