Thread: XBOX 360 - Red Ring of Death

My flatmate's XBOX360 died today - Boots up with three red lights on the ring piece indicator. I was horrified to read just how common this is. How many of you have also experienced the red ring of death?

Luckily Microsoft extended the warranty for those who have general hardware failures so my flatmate can get it replaced.

i had the same thing... the console overheats... instead of taking it to m$ so quick try the towel trick and see how it works for a while... if it still continues then call m$... but be patient because sometime it takes about a month until you get it back.

there is a simple fan you can buy from best buy that will help keep the 360 cool. My friend had one on his and it worked, mind you the sound of the fan needs to be overrun by a good surround system :)

hey angel... i thought they took those fans off the market since it made the 360 even worse???

It only happened to me once.

my 360 had the three red lights so i took it apart cleaned it inside put it back together and it has worked ever since i have repaired 5 or six by doing this there not hard to take apart all u need it two torx screwdrivers size T9 AND T10

The towel trick genuinely works, apparently when u do it, the overheat again, resets sommet inside. My mate got red ring the other day, did the towel trick and now back to normal.

I've got the elite and as of yet, had no probs with it, fingers crossed i wont get a red ring on it, or anywhere else for that matter :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Well, they're alot cheaper now so the red light isn't a huge "OMGWTFBBQ!!!!!1one" issue anymore.
I tried the towel but it completely died afterwards,lol.
