The other week when I went to see Terminator 4, before the movie I was playing the Terminator 4 game on a ps3.
And it was bad, the controls were terrible, and couldn't see anything because it was 3rd person and the camera was always pointing the wrong way. It had all these special moves like duck behind wall which made it more confusing. Then these two robots came up and while I was madly pushing the buttons trying to find which one was the fire one, I got killed.
I couldn't help but think, it would of been so much better if it was first person. 5 minutes playing the game and I absolutely hate it.
However I enjoyed the 3rd person view in the Grand Theft Auto series, mostly because most of the time I was in a car, and I prefer driving in 3rd person. And GTA did do the 3rd person bits pretty good as well, I found aiming was pretty easy.
But I think 1st person better for when you're a person, easy to aim, easy to look around. Maybe it's a console thing, and a disadvantage is you don't see your players character, but who really wants to be looking the backside of the character the entire game.
Another game I saw someone playing recently was "Just Cause" on xbox 360, I have to say what a crap game, and violent, for some reason every second person you see shoots you, and you have to kill them, it's even more violent then GTA, and they make some bullshit story that your a good guy cause everyone else all all bad or corrupt.
At least with GTA they don't sugarcoat it and just come right out and say you're the bad guy.
'Just Cause' is 3rd person too, with some auto-aim feature, and a console game. But I really just wanted to say it's a crap game.
3rd person has it's place, and is good if done right, but if done wrong it's hopeless.
