Thread: Best story?

Hey I wanted to see which games you guys believe have the best story. Even if a game plays badly, if it has good narrative I'll keep playing. My friends think that's weird, but these days I don't have the time to play too many video games so I try to enjoy them as much as possible. My personal opinion for the best story driven game would be Red Dead Redemption. Had absolutely one of the best and yet most depressing endings. I still remember riding through the rain after that one major scene towards the end before the last mission and feeling quite sad, you really start to care about the characters after a while. lol it's one of those games in which you can truly immerse yourself in. How about you guys, what are your choices and why?

Well i have a big backlog of games that i just don't think i am ever going to get through :[
I have been playing Dark Souls but its just punishment its that hard. But to answer your question, the Uncharted series has to be up there. Decent story and great game. In the past i always loved the Resident evil games and thought the story lines were great. Another one is the Final Fantasy series. I have a platinum in the last one.

I'm not the kind of guy who plays many games, but here are some that I really loved the story:

Call of Duty: Black Ops
The campaign mode in this game is just amazing. It is as if you were telling a story to someone, and as you remember the facts the game takes you to those moments and you play them.
In the ending there are a few amazing revelations and plot twists. I loved it.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Call me a kid, but in the final missions I felt like I was in a movie :)

Portal 2
First play Portal (1), then play this one. Amazing story, great gameplay, killer ending!

@ Cuchulainn I've enjoyed all the final fantasy games quite a lot, on 13 I only needed one last bounty to get the platinum, never got around to it I also beat resident evil 4 about 7 times. I really like the dark atmosphere. @KevinFlynn I never play the COD games for the story I jump right in to the multiplayer lol.
I never got to the final missions in San Andreas so I can't give my personal opinion of the story as whole, but Rockstar has always done a great job with the story in their games so I wouldn't doubt them and who doesn't like portal?

A story i was really hooked on was the god of war series, great story especially if you like greek mythology like me.

The God of War games are amazing as well too bad they don't make GOW for PC. I only played the PSP titles.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Shadow of the Colossus. Other than a mysterious deity/deities and a few characters that appear after the credits, there's no more than a line or so of dialogue. The story is simple and seems pretty repetitive; a traveler wanders into a desolate land with a dead girl in his arms, a voice (or collection of voices. Male and female voices speak at once) tells him that if he kills 16 colossi his love will be brought back from the dead.

I don't want to spoil anything but taking down those huge colossi and seeing the impact it has on the main character is quite something. You never know whether to be happy or sad when you kill a colossi; their deaths are both beneficial and detrimental to the main character. They also mind their own business until you try to kill them so they don't seem like they had it coming.

Seriously, if you have a ps2 or a decent computer to emulate one, you need to play this game. It was also one of the most beautiful games the ps2 ever had. The art was amazing.

I don't know man. I think Vice City's story was intense as well.

I couldn't help feeling like a boss everwhere I went.
