    Default Buy a PS3 or XBOX 360?

I'm going to Best Buy today to buy a PS3 or XBOX 360, no clue which yet but I'm leaning towards the PS3. I saw a PS3 bundle package online. It's a Sony - PlayStation 3 (320GB) Uncharted 3 Bundle ($300). It's so much cheaper than an XBOX from what I've looked. I get a 320GB HD, Bluray player and Uncharted 3 which looks like a pretty good game. It was just released on Nov 1st. Anyways, all I have to do is a buy a 2nd controller and one more game and I'm pretty much set. So for a an extra controller and a 2nd video game it would cost me around $410. I'm probably saving around $50 by getting a PS3?

I just have a couple questions. Would you recommend a PS3 or a 360 and please explain why?

Also, would it be wise to buy a 2-YR protection plan from Best Buy? Is it necessary or even worth the $60? And is there anything else you recommend I get? Accessories wise or anything?

Do the XBOX and PS3 play burned Movies? Can it read DVD-R, etc.?

    Thanks guys!

Well that's entirely up to the type of gamer you are. Everyone has their own opinions about which is better so I'll list pros and cons.

    PS3
    Pros
    +Bluray
    +Free online
+7.1 surround (if you have a home theater)
+better first party and exclusive games. Uncharted, god of war, killzone, metal gear solid, infamous, resistance, demon souls, etc. (this is my opinion)
    +Good hardware (I'm still on my first ps3 and 4th xbox 360)

    Cons
-their online service is not as good as xbox live
-game updates and installs are slow
-xbox 360 usually gets DLC on big games sooner

    Xbox 360
    Pros
    +Great online service
+although I like ps3 1st party games better, it still has gears of war, halo, etc.
+You get DLC for big name games sooner (usually a month)

    Cons
    -Xbox live costs money
    -No bluray support
-No 7.1 DTS MA and Dolby truHD

Also, would it be wise to buy a 2-YR protection plan from Best Buy?
I think sony and microsoft have a free warranty for up to 1 year, but it does take a while to ship back to you. It's really up to you.

And is there anything else you recommend I get? Accessories wise or anything?
You should be set, unless you're into motion gaming. Or a headset for Ps3 if you play online

Do the XBOX and PS3 play burned Movies? Can it read DVD-R, etc.?
    Yes

    I have PS3, my brother has 360
I know for sure the PS3 can play burned movies, don't know about the 360
I like the PS3 as it looks better, amongst other reasons.

One thing to note, if you're using wireless remotes PS3 controllers have a non-user replaceable battery, 360 uses AA batteries (I think). You can replace the 360 controller batteries in any case

I wouldn't recommend the 2yr protection plan. I've bought them in the past and they're not really needed. If whatever I have needs fixing/replacing it always happens after all the warranties expire...go figure

Recommending one over the other depends on what you're planning to do with it? will you be modding/hacking them? playing online? Using it mainly for games or movies or media server or other?

My ps3 shipped without a power cord, I called sony and the csr just told me to go to any computer store and buy a power cable for a pc tower/monitor. much cheaper than sony's branded cord

I'm a huge movie buff, I'm always download movies. So it would be nice to burn some bluray movies as of right now I just have a DVD player? I have an old HDTV, will it be able to play bluray movies? I don't think my TV is 720 or 1080. It does have and HDMI slot, that's all I know. So If I can't use the bluray, probably a deal breaker.

I do want to use online, but I'm not the person that will be on it all the time. I'm a causal gamer, my last system was a PS1 or Dreamcast, lol, so as you can tell I dont use video games that much. I wanted to buy that new Call of Duty as my first game? Good choice?

I also have a 2 year old son, so I was think that the Kinect would be a good idea? I dont know if he is too young or not to actually understand or enjoy whats going on.

I've always played PlayStation, I'm really use to there machine and I love the controller. I have tried XBOX before and I'm not to fond of the controller.

I did buy a 360 a while ago, ended up taking it back, can't remember why, I think cause I didnt have much time. But now I'm a stay at home father and I really dont go out much anymore. So I'm just looking for something that will keep me busy but also last me a long time, even once a new system comes out. So this is a hard choice.

EDIT: Oh and If I could mod, I would love too. I know you can do it on the X360, I have no clue how. But I know is possible but tedious. With the PS3 I never heard of anything? If I could mod this sumnabitch I would do it in a heartbeat. I cant afford $60 games every time they come out. Prices are ridiculous!

the tv will be able to hook up to any other connection that has hdmi output (eg. ps3, receiver, vid card with hdmi output). your tv will show movies no problem but not in hi-def then if it's not 720 or 1080 but it will play. You could probably save yourself some hdd space and bandwith by getting dvd9 or 5 s instead of bluray since you're not getting the full benefit (if that's a concern to you) your okay then since your tv has 720p and 1080i

Haven't personally used kinect but it seems simple enough. At 2yrs old he'll probably start to enjoy it soon.

If you're using online you probably won't be hacking the machine since that'll prevent you from playing online. Haven't played CoD either. I have a lot of stuff but I never use it. I think I have about a dozen ps3 games and only opened 3 of them :P

you'll have to make a decision then whether you want to spend the $$ on games and have the ability to play online or hack and play downloaded games but forfeit going online.
I play ssf4 ae online so I don't touch my ps3. when I get around to it though I will softmod my wii, so it can sit there and do nothing modded

Ok, so my tv can play 720 and 1080 movies? I just needed a dvd o bluray player capable of playing them, correct? The ps3 is the perfect player?

Looks like Ill go with the ps3 now. just having a bluray and it being cheaper is just awesome.

when playing burned movies, do I have to do anything special? or is just covert the movie to NTSC and burn it? i'm assuming it plays blank dvd-r and bluray discs? probably wont play and pal movies?

yes, your tv can play 720 and 1080 movies in 720 and 1080 format

you will need a bluray player if you are going to burn them. you don't have to burn them though, I never do so I can't help you much there. I use ps3 media server that plays from my computer through playstation onto tv and receiver, no burning or discs needed. i think xmbc does something similar but i've never used it.

another option is a media center. I have the Patriot Box office, Western Digital has one too. streams all sorts of formats from your computer through the little (and cheaper!) box to your tv

sorry to keep nailing you with questions. the ps3 media server is like a cloud? does it work with my tv? or do I have to buy something to stream movies and such?

Just stream like you normally would through windows media player if you have windows. It's already ready to go since it's under 4GB (FAT32 limitations).

This is WMP 11, but they're all the same more or less
