Hey man,

Obtaining my 3rd XB on Monday. Went from having 0 for years due to a RROD and didn't wan't to open (READ: fuck) it up until my brother got me an elite. Fixed the original but gave it to my brother but now theres another one on the way I'd like to mod one.

I did have a look into it beforehand but didn't have anybody to question about it. Is any xbox harder to mod than another or do they all rely on the same disc drive hack?

Once an xbox has been modded does it require (or can you still) run custom firmware?

Actually, gonna try flashing my oldest 360 this weekend with the Slax method.

Have you tried this? Tutorials I've read recommend Slax 2.1 as this version will put the drive into mode B. Slax is now on version 6.1 - do you know if this method still works?

I'd rather try this than burn cash on an xecuter kit.

EDIT: Damn, just checked my old desktop and its IDE and not SATA.

I foresee issues when booting slax due it being USB not directly on the mobo..

OK, you can actually disregard alot of these questions... starting looking into it again last night.

Bought this (after seeing complaints about SATA > USB connections): VIA 6421 SATA PCI Expansion Adapter Card for Xbox 360 Flash Repairs 6421A | eBayShould arrive in a couple of days. Just hope the desktop PC still works!


Cracked open my old xbox today, I've got an hitachi 79 drive.

Can you please post the software/files needed to flash? Alot of links I'm seeing around the internet are years old and dead. I found a version of Slax 2.1 on tpb so no problem with compatibility (need it? search 'Slax 2.1 download')

Another thing - can I burn games that are under 4.5GB's to a standard DVD disc? I've got a dual layer drive but no dual layer DVD's.

Don't use whatever method you are talking about, never heard of it. You can end up bricking your xbox

Would really like to know how to mod a 360. I want to buy one soon but want to be able to play burned games. No clue about how to even begin?

Okie Droid.
First Download the tutorial in the above post.

Now only one of the three Slims can be modded. (so that's 33% of em)
and All Phat ( white one's can be modded ).

Modding can be tough i guess, question is can you solder ?

Are backup kinect games safe to play while logged onto live? I'm burning with an ihas drive, and I am on lt 3.0. Thanks!
