PS3 all the way! I've had my PS3 for about 5 years now and I have no problems so far. I had an Xbox 360, the RROD, got it fixed and sold it. PS3 overall is more versatile. I have the original 60gb (upgraded to 640gb hdd now) which had backwards compatibility so it lets me play PS2 games also. It also plays Blu-Ray whereas the Xbox 360 was HD-DVD which is now extinct! Much like they came out with PS2 games long after PS3 came out, I think they will be making games for the PS3 long after PS4 comes out.
PS3 for me. Playing online is free and i can play bluray disc
Honestly, I think it depends on what you like more: gaming or movies/extra content.
XBOX has a better gaming community than the PS3.
PS3 is more of an all around system, not the best but still good for gaming (free online play), but makes up for it in the ability to watch Bluray movies.
I am more a casual gamer, and don't really care for gaming all that much anymore. I have owned a PS3 for 3 years now and enjoy it. I mostly use it for watching movies now, but it's nice to be able to pop a game in every now and again and have some fun.

I own both but like PS3 more.
PS3
-better first party and exclusive games
-blu-ray
-free online
-reliable. I'm on my 4th xbox and still my first ps3
-older community online (mostly). I don't have 11 year olds screaming in my ear on PS3.
-i like ps3 controller more
-7.1 surround
Chose which games you want to play then chose the system. :)
I've always been a Playstation fan so I would always stick with that. Plus the free online play and Blu-Ray support does it for me.
